Anyone ordered from here? Looking at prom dresses for my daughter but am reluctant to order as I have concerns the quality won’t be great. She wants something “ballgown”y a proper prom dress, but I can’t afford the £500+ in the shops! No luck looking for second hand dresses, she’s very petite and we haven’t seen anything she likes that will fit. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Blooming new site!

My niece got hers from TKMaxx £80 and it's absolutely gorgeous. Have you tried there?

O2HaveALittleHouse · 02/05/2022 22:36

My DD’s prom dress is from JJ’s and it is lovely. I think it cost about £50 or £60 so very good value and the finish is fine.
I think the sizing is pretty exact. The only thing is that they’re long - she’s tall but I imagine it would be too long on most teens.

Springhassprung86 · 02/05/2022 22:38

Thanks all. Real mixed bag of reviews! I looked on trust pilot, but tbh feel like people are more likely to leave a review if they’re dissatisfied so thought I’d ask here. My daughter is a size six but only 5ft 3, so likely will need it taken up? Reluctant to order custom based on comments here.

I think she’d need to have it taken up. My DD is also a size 6 but probably 4 inches taller and it just exactly fits length wise.

Mind you, what shoes does your DD want to wear? 3 inch heels might change matters!

Springhassprung86 · 02/05/2022 23:24

Thanks @O2HaveALittleHouse did you order her a six then, and the fitting was accurate?
yes mine will probably wear heels-we will try the dress on with shoes before taking it for alterations 😊

Just received my daughter’s prom dress from here, it’s lovely, good quality, fits well (not custom, but ordered based on their measurement guide which was really accurate). About £65 with postage and arrived relatively quickly (pretty much on estimate). She’s really delighted with it.

We’ve had dds prom dress from Jj’s house. It was a few days late, due on Maundy Thursday but it arrived on the Wednesday after Easter, so possibly held up with the bank holidays, although I read that china was struggling with exports because of covid so could be either/both reasons.
the dress quality is fine, it will need altering, dd generally wear a size 12-14 jeans but a size 10-12 top, so we ordered a 14, waist and hips are fine but the top and shoulders are a bit big (which I expected) and it’s a bit long. But it shouldn’t be a big job to alter.
shipping and returns were expensive, so I was concerned if we got it wrong and because delivery took so long, I ordered with enough time to order another should the first not fit at all, but luckily it fits.

Id order from them again.

Yes she wears a 6 in pretty much all shops, we ordered a 6 and it fits really nicely.

I bought my bridesmaids dresses from here a few years ago.

The quality was excellent although 2/3 needed adjustments - one was far too long and another needed taking in.

However they were held at customs and I had to pay import fees of about 50% of the cost of the dresses themselves.

By the time we included these fees plus the seamstress needed for adjustments, it wasn't too much of a cost saving...plus the stress and delay.

The finished dresses after adjustments were beautiful but I don't think I'd use them again.

tuliplover · 03/05/2022 00:07

My daughter got her prom dress from there. It was lovely, but we did have to get it hemmed (she is 5'6.5", and only wears flats). But that wasn't a big deal - it was double layered with chiffon but only cost £20 to hem. I'd be surprised if you got a dress from anywhere that didn't need hemming for the height of your daughter.

I bought a bridesmaid dress from here when I got married (2017). It was great. Her bridesmaid dress actually fit her better then my wedding dress from elsewhere fitted me, no alterations needed and she is a WEIRD combination of sizes (top, mid and bottom dont match on her) so they got it spot on.
Measure properly and it's amazing. And good quality. Didn't feel like it was going to fall apart. And came fairly quickly. Only 3 weeks ish for delivery.

GellerYeller · 03/05/2022 00:26

We used them when DDs prom- thought to be cancelled- was announced in lockdown. Lots of other schools locally deferred theirs but getting appointments at dress shops was difficult at short notice.

I was dubious about ordering from overseas. We ordered two to try, intending to send one back. Not custom, and they were true to size. She chose very classic styles, no embellishments, and was happy. She's about 5 feet 5 and it did need taking up and steaming. The fabric felt nicely heavy and it was lined. The colours looked very similar to the photos online.

I also saw the reviews were not great but we didn't have many other options! We decided to keep the second dress and sell it on later so I can't comment on returns or refunds. I appreciate we were lucky to be in a position to do that.

Ponderingwindow · 03/05/2022 00:52

I ordered a dress for dd once. The quality was excellent. I did the alterations myself so I got to know the dress quite well. I was happier with that dress than many others I have purchased.

the downsides and they are big downsides
shipping will take forever. Expect it to be much longer than they tell you. I noticed many of the problematic reviews are from people who had that problem and got the item too late.

if the dress doesn’t fit, Returns really aren’t an option. Shipping it back is just cost prohibitive. You need to measure really well and think of it like purchasing a dress from a bridal shop. Expect that you may need to make alterations to get a perfect fit. If you have the skills to do that yourself, it’s a great way to get an affordable dress. If you are going to have to take it to a seamstress, it may I be up costing more than buying locally.

mummymayhem18 · 03/05/2022 19:52

Well my daughters dress arrived today. Thankfully wasn't as bad as I thought after reading the reviews. It looks good like the picture. I paid for custom so it wasn't quite as long. It will still need altering as the bra/type top part is a bit to big. Length wise I think it's ok. My daughter is a size 6 but I ordered an 8 as was worried if it would be too tight you can't do anything with it whereas if it's a bit to big you can have it taken in. My daughter also doesn't have a big bust so has a bit less for it to sit on 🤣.

Seeline · 19/05/2022 19:14

Just thought I'd update. Ordered DDs dress on 30/4, it was shipped on 11/5 and arrived today.
It appears to be well made and fits pretty well. Even with heels it is too long, but at 5'3" we're used to that! She is delighted with it.
We didn't have to pay any extra customs or anything, just the standard shipping charge of £17.
Hope all your DDs can find what they are looking for!

catsonahottinroof · 02/05/2022 21:31

It's a bit worrying looking at some of those Trust Pilot reviews as I've just ordered dd's prom dress from there.
The only other options I can think of OP are buying new from somewhere like Coast, ChiChi London or Needle & Thread or go to a prom dress/bridal shop and see if they have any dresses in stock that they are selling off.

Me too, we're up against the clock so hoping it's OK!

catsonahottinroof · 19/05/2022 20:16

Just to update, my dd's dress arrived yesterday - within the timeframe for delivery. She is really pleased with it and it seems well made. The only problem is with sizing and a stiff zip, especially in the area of thicker fabric. We will hopefully be able to get it altered by a local seamstress but if not, the dress is still wearable. (For reference if anyone is interested, my dd is average height and the dress is a bit too long and loose in the torso, skirt length fine though).

daffodilandtulip · 19/05/2022 20:24

We've had this years prom dress from there. We paid for custom made as nothing ever fits her in any shop and it's perfect. They text to double check the measurements and it's spot on. Good quality as far as I'm aware. DD is really pleased.

Arrived within the time frame ... even if I was worrying about how long it was taking, I messaged them and they sent me the tracker to show it was on its way.

HotChoc10 · 19/05/2022 20:29

I bought a dress there recently, it did look just like the picture but I decided against it and returned it without issue.

Jerseymilkshake · 20/05/2022 07:50

I bought my daughters prom dress from there 2 years ago, got the custom sizing and it was perfect when it came. She loved it and I was suprised but how good quality it was.

Happyplace88 · 20/05/2022 09:56

Thanks all! I too have ordered from there. Can’t wait for it to arrive after reading all of there. Will update when it does!

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 22/05/2022 19:00

Lots of dd’s friends dresses have no arrived and all seem happy with them.

ecnatsid · 22/05/2022 19:03

I got my wedding dress from here it was fine

Happyplace88 · 19/06/2022 21:56

Sorry only just updating! Dress has arrived and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I’m really impressed with the quality, the fit is spot on (long on her and needs Taking up but I expected that). I would 100% recommend, I wouldn’t hesitate to order again from here.
