to be disappointed re: skin burn/damage after laser hair removal

I have had laser hair removal before (in London) which worked a treat a few years ago. I have brown (type IV) skin and had no problems at all, they must have been used to all skin types where I went in London. Fast forward 5 years and a pandemic, I recently got a couple more sessions locally (in a less diverse part of the country). Patch test and first session fine.

I'm days after the second session and have some patches of hyperpigmentation. At first I thought it may have been patchy bruises but its brown rather than purple/red and not tender at all (also not had any trauma to cause the bruise).

Anyone have any experience of this? or know what I can use it to make it better/fade away?

I've heard of this happening and it puts me off tbh. I've read it happens after sun exposure.

Bump. Anyone have any advice on what I should do next? I am not looking to claim compensation etc I just want to know if theres anything I can do to make it fade (creams etc), do I contact the salon? Is there any other way for me to get the right info?

Definitely contact the salon.

Might want to also contact a dermatologist as the hyper pigmentation is a type of scarring response to skin damage.

Also a type IV, and no marks, dark patches etc, even on more sensitive skin.

Is it melasma? I remember Sali Hughes writing about it. www.theguardian.com/fashion/2017/nov/11/sali-hughes-beauty-melasma

I think it is just a superficial burn that looks like scratches, for the first time there is a tiny (dot) scab which came off. I feel hopeful that the rest will scab over and fall off too
