To think sweetcorn doesn't belong anywhere near, let alone IN a beef casserole?

My friend sent me a picture of the beef casserole and dumplings she made, as it looked a bit delicious.

But...she had absolutely ruined it by putting sweetcorn in there Confused

Considering ghosting her tbh it can never be the same between is again...

This!!!

Maybe she didn't want to wash a separate saucepan for the veg! I don't really see the difference between sweetcorn and any other veg. You just put what veg you like the taste of in stew and sweetcorn doesn't really taste of much. I put sweetcorn in stir fries and macaroni cheese! My mum used to put peas in spaghetti bol and I hated it mixed with the tomato as they are quite a strong taste and don't absorb flavour.

Baby sweetcorn or actual sweetcorn

ShirleyPhallus · 02/05/2022 11:25

I love sweetcorn in everything

But sending photos of food never, ever looks good. People posting photos of their roast dinners look the worst, they always look like prison slop. Bet this stew looked like diarrhoea tbh

Well if you don't like it then don't eat it but it doesn't mean it doesn't belong there. My ds would say mushrooms don't belong in stew because he doesn't like them, but plenty of people would disagree with him! (Including me).

The clue is in the name. There are probably carrots in the stew. You don't need any more sweetness. Beef needs tart flavours like mustard or horse-radish. Spring greens, sprouts or broccoli as veg.

Ugh

But not as bad as celery

that is devil “food”

Retrievemysanity · 02/05/2022 12:03

Omg. That would ruin the bank holiday for me.

Comedycook · 02/05/2022 12:05

Yanbu

caringcarer · 02/05/2022 12:22

Sweetcorn and mushrooms are the foods of the devil.

Ikeptgoing · 02/05/2022 12:36

Yum love a bit of sweetcorn in casseroles, and carrots, chickpeas, lentils and mushrooms alongside the meat....

Nom nom 😃

Squiff70 · 02/05/2022 12:41

I love sweetcorn but definitely wouldn't put it IN a casserole. I'd heat it in a pan on the hob and serve it separately.
