Wedding evening guest question

Not an especially controversial one though!

if you’re invited to an evening reception with a 6.30 start time what time should you get there?

YABU - get there AT 6.30

YANBU - get there a bit after - 7.00 ish is ideal

630

Merryoldgoat · 01/05/2022 11:40

Ok - 6.30 it is!

we didn’t have evening guests and I’ve never been to a wedding as an evening guest so wasn’t sure!!

I can guarantee if you get there on time, the day people will still be eating.

Merryoldgoat · 01/05/2022 12:16

@superram

hmmmm. I did think that but I literally have no clue.

Ask what rest of timings are, normally as soon as evening do starts there is first dance, cake cutting etc.

MajorCarolDanvers · 01/05/2022 12:23

630

Merryoldgoat · 01/05/2022 12:30

I would if it wasn’t today… not sure they’d appreciate a message like that today…

Does the invitation say 'at' or 'from'?

If it's at, then 6.30
If it's from, then 7 would be fine.
It's rare they have dance/cake planned for the start time and evening food will likely be later on if they've had a daytime meal

Merryoldgoat · 01/05/2022 12:49

@jackstini I’ll check with DH.

thank you.

I would arrive on time as they might have planned first dance for 7.

At our wedding things ran over a bit and the speeches were still going on for about 10 mins after the evening guests were supposed to arrive. But they were greeted at the door and got access to the free bar a bit earlier than the day guests so that worked out quite well
