Ds is in year 7 and has 2 tips coming up in the summer term, a sports related one and a language one, both to other countries. Thinking about future trips and also family holidays, some that involve travelling by plane, can anyone please recommend a hard wearing, ideally hard shell medium sized suitcase?

Shall we fork out and get something better so we don't have to buy a new one every couple of years if it gets tossed around on trips or are there good value good quality ones? Help!

I bought a Samsonite hard shell from J. Lewis in their sale for my grandson's 18th. Was £160ish, fitted criteria for cabin cases, was half price. Reckoned it would do him a few years, got v g reviews. Not massive though. A strong wheeled rucksack type case might be more suitable for a younger child. I've recently bought a good one on Amazon, very strong but easy to manoevre, Pierre Cardin £74.95 capacious & strong.

I recently bought a wheeled rucksack for dc when we go abroad its from mountain warehouse and is 50litres so good size (but not suitable for cabin). Dc is 13 and found it easy to wheel around and carry on back.
Also what sports equipment is he carrying as this might need to be considered?

Do not buy the wheeled backpack type. baggage handlers hate them!
I travel a LOT and buy the cheapest and lightest one I can find.

I paid a lot for a samsonite case. It was broken into the first trip I used it and the lock damaged beyond repair rendering the case useless. In all the years I'd used cheaper cases no one bothered. I subsequently bought a decent set from Antler which I'd highly recommend.

I brought a Tripp one lots of lovely colours and fairly cheap compared to some brands. Has lasted well.
