I’ve been in my new job for around a couple of months, it was a big move for me after being in my old job for many years. It’s going really well but I’m still having times of feeling anxious / out of sorts / just not feeling settled. I sort of thought a couple of months in it would all feel normal?!
Is it normal to feel like this? How long did it take you to settle in and any tips for times of anxiety really would be appreciated!

Do you mix with your colleagues, have you got to know them?

C1239 · 29/04/2022 18:33

Yeah I try to but it’s quite a quiet place to work

I'm probably no help, I started a new job on Monday and feel pretty settled and welcomed already.

Are there any 'extracurricular' things you can do to try to bond with your team?

That’s brilliant you feel settled already @DolphinaPD , I must be an odd one taking so long to feel normal in the new job! No one has really mentioned any extra activities.

You're not odd, this team have all been very welcoming and my manager is easing me in gently, I haven't been thrown in the deep end.

Can you identify why you feel out of sorts there? Are you still getting to grips with the work, or is it cliquey?

I usually take 3 months to get settled in. It’s normal.

imtry Tom just fly under the radar uncontroversially until I know the lay of the land.

my DH is usually a heap of anxiety for 6 months minimum which is why he changed jobs infrequently (thank god).
