Getting really desperate and feminax hasn't worked after a couple of hours. It's ok to mix these right?

Yes.

Chelsea26 · 28/04/2022 21:05

Yes - depending on your pain and tolerance. The best way to keep constant pain at bay is to take them every two hours but alternate them. So naproxen at 8am, co-Co at 10am, naproxen at 12…

if you have severe but relatively short lived pain you can take them all together

itsmeagainlol · 28/04/2022 21:09

Yes, its a good combination for pain. You can take them together or spaced out. I prefer both at once to really whack the pain. Just don't exceed safe dosage

ZealAndArdour · 28/04/2022 21:12

You can only take 3 x 250mg Naproxen tablets in a 24hr period, so PP’s suggested dosing regime may not give you enough spread of pain relief over the day. From the 4pm you’d be high and dry until 8am the next day. Try and spread them out a bit more.

Thanks all. Period pain is horrific, it's almost giving me an out of body experience.

Oh you poor thing. I'd get it taken and if it helps then try and space it back out so you get something every 2 hours

Conniebanana · 28/04/2022 21:22

Alternating I mean !

Nat6999 · 28/04/2022 21:24

ZealandArdour you can take 4 & 250mg Naproxen per day, I am prescribed 2 & 500mg per day for arthritis, I would recommend starting them 36 hours before your period starts if you can gauge it or swapping to Ibuprofen where you can take up to 2400mg per day.

Ibuprofen does absolutely nothing for this pain at all. For almost two years it was pretty unpleasant but naproxen handled it.

Really disappointed it's back to this level of pain. My cycle is fairly regular but does vary by about two days so not really able to start prophylactic painkillers.

Have taken the cocodamol now so hoping for relief soon!

Sometimes a heated wheat bag or hot water bottle as well painkillers can help too

SecretVictoria · 28/04/2022 21:48

Could I jump on and ask where you got the Feminax Ultra @Absentmindedwoman ? It’s been OOS for almost two years round here, no pharmacy has had it and it’s always OOS online 😞

DanielRicciardosSmile · 28/04/2022 21:49

Naproxen is an NSAID, so can't be taken alongside drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen or diclofenac. OK to take with paracetamol and opioids like codeine.

HippyChickMama · 28/04/2022 21:53

Buscopan is also really effective for period pain, you may need a prescription for it though as I think it's only available over the counter for IBS. You can take it alongside the other medication you are already taking

Duchess379 · 28/04/2022 22:04

Absolute! I'm on Naproxen for arthritis & take co codamol when inflammation gets really bad

ZealAndArdour · 28/04/2022 22:52

You can take that many if you’re prescribed that many, but OTC Feminax Ultra is max 3x tablets a day. Some people are on massive prescribed doses of NSAIDs, but that’s not safe for blanket use for every member of the population.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 29/04/2022 13:57

Yes

ComDummings · 29/04/2022 13:58

I thought you couldn’t get feminax ultra OTC any more?

10HailMarys · 29/04/2022 14:24

You can use those things together, yes, as PPs have said.

Has your doctor suggested you get investigated for endometriosis? It sounds like you've been suffering horribly with period pain for a long time.

Haveatakeaway · 29/04/2022 14:47

On god sympathies. Are you taking OTC strength cocodamol? If so your gp might put a prescription
tthough for the 15 or even 30mg strength tablets if you call them and explain. Our surgery always tries to do this but I know surgeries differ loads. Don't forget to kind your stomach well with the naproxen Flowers
