To have not realised how much housekeeping care assistants have to do

Maybe I was naive, but in a couple of the homes I've been in I've basically been a kitchen porter for a few hours. Lot of laundry sorting, recycling, cleaning sluice rooms. Tidying rooms changing bedding, etc. There are on site housekeepers and it sounds a bit silly but I'm not sure what they're actually there for. They mop the floors and clean out the bathrooms but the care assistants seem to do everything else.
Not in every home, but a couple of them.
Is anyone else a care assistant who can shed light on this?
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's just been surprising I guess.

We had to change beds/towels as needed, put laundry in the right laundry bag and wheel the laundry trolley down to the laundry room. And we were meant to mop up spills if we found them rather than go and find a housekeeper, but no one ever actually explained to me where the mops were kept/ how I accessed them from the locked cupboard that the housekeepers had the keys for without finding a housekeeper Confused

Some of the laundry ladies would put residents clean clothes in their rooms and we were supposed to put them away. Others would put them away knowing how busy we were.

I'll be honest, it was a shock going there from a rehab unit where all we did was tell the residents to make their beds/ do their laundry and assist them if they needed it.

I used to work in care homes, I still have friends who do. It's standard and a matter of luck if a home has enough housekeeping/linen/cleaners so the care assistants don't have to do it. Often on nights our workload was ridiculous.

In my experience stripping and making beds is normal, tidying up is normal as is mopping up spills and putting laundry away. Sometimes we had to wash supper dishes. The laundry however was put into bags and taken to the laundry room where someone else washed them.
