To think Prosecco is better than Cava?

I know nothing about wine but want to offer my weekending AirBNB guests some fizz and brownies as a welcome gesture.

What do you think?

YABU- Cava is better

YANBU- Prosecco is better

I'll offer orange juice to non-drinkers.

Cava wipes the floor with Prosecco. I keep waiting for cava to overthrow the pretender to its affordable fizz throne but instead Freixenet have produced a prosecco, presumably reasoning that if you can’t beat them, join them.

there are some good proseccos. Very few. You have to pay at least £12 a bottle. Everything else is awful syrupy fizz made in a concrete tank. I was at a wedding recently where they chose the wrong Prosecco and it reminded me of bloody Pomagne.

ArtVandalay · 25/04/2022 11:45

I'd choose Cava over Prosecco as it is produced via the Méthode Champenoise whereas Prosecco is produced in tanks.

Crémant is better than both, imo.

Champagne is best 🥂

English sparkling wine maybe? Chapel Down, Nyetimber, that kind of thing.

I'm a champagne or don't bother person myself but I appreciate that most people would be quite happy with a bottle of something fizzy.

You won’t get much change from £40 for a bottle of Nyetimber and I’m not sure that the OP is looking to spend that much! It is delicious though.

I prefer cava, but Brut cava, I can´t stand cheap sweet sickly wines.

Bramshott · 25/04/2022 11:50

If I was your Aibnb guest I would be enormously happy with and grateful for either!

Ringhelpme · 25/04/2022 11:53

Sainsburys do a lovely bottle of Cremant de Bourgogne for £10! That would be my choice.

girlmom21 · 25/04/2022 11:53

I prefer Prosecco but I would be chuffed with either. I love a freebie.

hulahooper2 · 25/04/2022 12:04

Prosecco is vile

GremlinDolphin4 · 25/04/2022 12:05

Cava is much nicer, much less added sugar and a better process if manufacture! Xx

timestheyarechanging · 25/04/2022 12:08

Prosecco - Cava gives me a headache

ilovemyelectriccar · 25/04/2022 12:15

Crémant all the way...

Cavagirl · 25/04/2022 12:15

Well... clearly I have some thoughts...

In all seriousness I've had some lovely prosecco - in Italy.

If you're looking at spending £6 here in a supermarket you will get a vastly superior sparkling wine buying cremant or cava at that price than you will a supermarket prosecco IMO.

Supermarket prosecco in this country is generally awful.

clarkie78 · 25/04/2022 12:22

Cava

SmugOldBag · 25/04/2022 12:43

I have an AirBnB and I have left my guests local wine from Chardonnay to Syrah to bubbles and also the cheaper imported stuff when I'm not not hugely flush

We live in a wine area so I suspect it's different but all of them have just loved the fact we've left something for them!

I wouldn't worry about it too much tbh. A decent Italian brand Prosecco is going to to be better than Friexenet Cava as is a Cremant. Most people won't notice other than "FREE BUBBLES!"

that1970shouse · 25/04/2022 12:52

Personally I prefer Cava but Prosecco is more popular so I might offer that, in your situation.

Vikinga · 25/04/2022 12:55

I love either but don't like cremant. Also champagne is wasted on me though..
