Hello,
Posted this as AIBU for more traffic.

Just wanted an insight into how much your DP (and you) contributed when you lived with him and his family (if you did) or if you are a mother, how much do you expect as contribution?

Thanks

Dh paid their mortgage, so £650 a month. I contributed nothing financially but cooked twice a week and cleaned daily.

ttcbabyk · 24/04/2022 20:59

Thank you @Sceptre86 anyone else?

My ex and I lived with his parents for a few months. We bought our own groceries and helped around the house but did not pay them anything. They were mortgage free if that makes a difference.

Never lived with in-laws but I lived with my own parents for a short while after uni. Paid them £200 a month rent

We bought/cooked our own food, tidied and tried to be of no trouble.

I think it depends on circumstances.
We have had to do it twice; once when pregnant and our house purchase was going through and couldn't delay our sale and the other time when we were renovating and had no kitchen/bathroom. Both times for about 6-8 weeks.
Parent is mortgage free and wouldn't let us pay anything which we wanted to but we cooked, cleaned, ironed, bought food and kept them in stock with good wine 🍷

We lived with my parents for 6m with our 2 dc when we moved back from overseas. We bought lots of the shopping, that’s it. I was looking for a job the whole time, and they don’t have a mortgage.

timeisnotaline · 24/04/2022 21:18

I should say I did cooking and clearing up and washing. But the house all up was messier than when there weren’t dc there.

pinkunicorns54 · 24/04/2022 21:23

Each of my three children and their partners has lived with us at some point. They did their own cooking (often including us) and we didn't expect them to contribute anything else - they will always have a home with us if they need it.

Vsirbdo · 24/04/2022 21:38

We didn’t pay anything apart from for food; we offered but they said to keep it to save for our own place which we did and moved out as quick as possible

Carrotmum · 24/04/2022 21:57

My DS and his partner stayed with us for 10 months they were saving for a place so they just bought their own food and made a small contribution to gas/ electric so they could save as much as possible. We were all glad when they were able to move out as it’s a strain tbh. We have a great relationship now we don’t live together.
