Dp is building a shed / man cave which I have told him I want finished in 5 weeks and by may when my daughters doing exams . He is just gone off on one about how I will be silencing him and then come summer I will be going on about he had to be quiet as I will be wanting to use garden and not listen to his endless banging about in garage . It is Aibu to say be quiet in summer ?

What does he plan on doing in there? Does he have a drum set?

Crikeyallmightly · 24/04/2022 22:02

Working on a car .

If he’s working on a car he will be banging about.

Crikeyallmightly · 24/04/2022 22:05

It’s been 6 years , how many more summers can I not use the garden for ?

Find a compromise. Negotiate time when you're happy for him to be banging about, and time when you'd like to be quiet. It's not an all or nothing. Just hoping you don't have neighbours like ours where quiet is not a thing they do.

Theunamedcat · 24/04/2022 22:09

Just how long are you expected to facilitate this waste of time money and effort?

Crikeyallmightly · 24/04/2022 22:11

we are the noisy neighbours.

FairyCakeWings · 24/04/2022 22:12

Surely he won’t be doing noisy work constantly and you can still use the garden sometimes? You should both be able to do what you want in your garden.

MoveOnTheCards · 24/04/2022 22:15

Has he been banging about with car bits all over the garden for the last 6 years?! I’d have had enough by now too and be shoving him and his car shit into a shed pronto!

Seen the price of classic cars recently?

Crikeyallmightly · 24/04/2022 22:54

Yes 6 years !

your neighbours would probably like to enjoy their gardens too.
when it gets to summer, how late does he go on until?

unfortunateevents · 24/04/2022 23:08

Well if it has taken him 6 years to NOT finish the shed, I doubt it is miraculously going to conclude in the next five weeks unfortunately.

toomuchlaundry · 24/04/2022 23:15

Your neighbours must hate you/DP

HeddaGarbled · 24/04/2022 23:40

It takes about 2 days to put up a shed. What on earth is he doing that is likely to take longer than 5 weeks?

BookkeeperBobby · 24/04/2022 23:56

6 years to build a shed? Get Kevin McCloud on his ass.

Unless he is Kevin McCloud.

Working on a car .

Sadly OP, 6 years isn't a particularly long time to work on a car. Friend of mine's DH worked on his first hobby car for more like 12-15 years before it was ready to enter in shows, which has paid off for him as it's now a regular prize winner. He now has another one and a track car.

Fortunately he's also got a fairly decent job (she earns well too in her own business) so they've been able to buy a house with a triple garage/workshop to keep his cars and tools in.
