Wouldn't it be lovely to be off sick without the gnawing guilt of missing work

I've got covid, day 8. I'm CEV so it's understadable that it's knocked me for 6. I've been off work and need to phone in tomorrow and speak to my manager. I cant see me being in next week even though I want to. I've got an excellent attendance record, they can manage fine without me but oh the guilt, I'm nervous already about making the call. I know it's ridiculous.

It really is. I'm a teacher where people notoriously drag themselves in because they know colleagues will get hit for cover, or they'll miss vital time with exam groups or whatever, but the truth is, everyone just gets on. No-one dies , stuff gets worked round, no-one is indispensable. I've seen it so often when people are leaving at the end of the year and we think how X will never be replaceable - of course they are. And most management will not show appreciation or even acknowledgement of any extra miles people go to do a great job, or dragging themselves in when ill, so just focus on feeling better.
