To ask how to stop payment ; fake website

I stupidly ‘purchased’ some shoes from a Russell&Bromley outlet advertised on facebook..
i know, I know… but it all looked genuine and naively I thought facebook would have removed it if it was a scam.
I paid with Paypal and my pp account says ‘completed’ so I can’t stop the payment.
It hasn’t appeared on my banking app yet. Advice please?

Call your bank and ask them to stop the payment.

ParisNoir · 24/04/2022 07:55

You can stop the payment if its paypal as there is a delay. Contact Paypal immediately and dispute the charge.

Gatekeeper · 24/04/2022 07:57

You will get your money back from Paypal. I was scammed this way last year and I got my money back after a couple of weeks

Neverreturntoathread · 24/04/2022 07:59

Call your bank and cancel paypal direct debit if you have it set up.

Start a dispute on Paypal saying item not received.

Paypal says you can’t cancel once a payment is completed. There doesn't seem to be a ‘mony back as it is a scam’ option on the help page

paypal gives you insurance for scams. I think you can just complain that you didnt receive the item and they will refund you. Not sure if you can stop payment before it goes through.

I fell into the same trap recently I phoned PayPal, I don't have a PayPal account, and told them of the fraud which had been committed using their system, I got my money back very quickly.

Moochio · 24/04/2022 09:17

Phone pay pal and your bank

How did payal give you your money back if you don't have a Paypal account?

Nitgel · 24/04/2022 09:21

I saw that ad on Facebook. Was really intrusive. Have you read conversation.which.co.uk/money/scam-watch-fake-shoe-advert-facebook/

You don't need a Paypal account to pay someone via Paypal. You can still get a refund without having an account in the case of fraudulent payments.

ScaldedBy · 24/04/2022 09:42

File a PayPal dispute. Item not received and state its a scam.

Tinkywinkydinkydoo · 24/04/2022 09:42

I did this at Christmas. PayPal gave me a date I had to receive the order by. If I didn’t receive it by then, they would start pay back proceedings. The items did arrive by the date they gave but blatantly counterfeit items. I took photos of them showing they weren’t genuine and sent the the website address abs had a refund within a few days. You need to open a dispute with PayPal.

Thanks all

Thanks, I didn't know that, I do have a paypal account but useful for under 18s if that is still the limit for an account

HumourReplacementTherapy · 24/04/2022 13:39

Can't believe that scam page is still going. FB should be doing more. A friend did the exact same as you, R&B shoes must be 4 years ago.
She did get her money back. I'm sure you will too.
Can you report the page?
I know they'll probably set another one up but at least it flags it.

Phone Paypal, they're very helpful
