This afternoon I listed something for free in my village Facebook group. It’s highly perishable and also very in demand and could save someone a lot of money (we over ordered by mistake) so didn’t want to waste it.

My village is only little and the moderators sometimes take ages to approve posts. So I listed it in the group for the next village along. It’s literally 1 mile away. I walk it regularly to go to their shop.

The post got approved and within 20 minutes I had a message from a moderator saying it was an accident and telling me not to post items not in this village, that it’s a local group for local people. I’ve now been removed 😂In that 20 minutes about 5 people had messaged to ask for the item saying they would happily come and collect it!

Is anyone here a fb group moderator? Is this normal or was I being unreasonable in listing something in multiple villages. I drive all over the place to collect marketplace bargains!

No, you weren't being unreasonable. Unfortunately, a lot of these village groups tend to be run by a "moderator" who seem to think running a Facebook group is an actual full time job.

We often have people advertising items from out of the area. The only condition the moderators put on posts is that in that situation the seller must offer delivery to the area.

Are give away items generally posted on that group ? I wouldn’t waste any time worrying about it tho! Presumably you have what you need, offers to take the item.

There's no normal each group has it's own rules and it's up to the admins

I'm in a few local groups, one only allows giving away stuff, one has to be within the village, one doesn't allow any selling, one has turned into almost a total selling group ... you get the picture

No need to give it another thought really
