Hi

Would love to hear your experience of doing this. My husband may be offered a relocation opportunity/promotion with his work. We have 3 kids under 12 and just want to hear what it is like.

I had a friend who did this. The health care package will need to be top notch.

Permanent or for fixed time?

I live in CA but lived in NYC first so didn’t come direct from the UK. What part? I am in the LA area and it is expensive but not as crazy as the Bay Area. I love living here, we have a very good lifestyle, great weather, lots of time outside. The traffic is bad but if you live in some areas it won’t impact you that much, we have days when we don’t need to drive anywhere. The schools can be difficult, you have to generally live in an expensive area to get good public (state) schools but if you can swing it the opportunities available especially at the high school level are quite amazing. Health insurance is an issue but the right job will take care of that. People love to hate on CA because of the “liberals” and claiming that it is full of homeless people and is very dangerous but I find it far safer than anywhere I have lived before

Ask the Sussexes...
And get your pithy self-help/affirming statements ready to spew forth when asked ( or even when not asked)

Thank you. Not sure if permanent or fixed term yet. I think I'll miss my family and my children have such great friends and interests here...I am very divided. I think of sin, blue sky etc but wonder if I'm just imagining it to be better than it is. Did your children settle well into their new schools?
Laughing at the Sussex comment...doubt I'll be hanging out with megs and Harry! We are nearer silicon valley/Bay area.

I lived briefly in San José.

San José/Los Gatos/Palo Alto is wonderful.

you’ll drive A LOT, but never encountered horrible traffic.

I could see myself living there permanently, but ultimately, we wanted to be near our family in Europe.

good luck!

What visa? Will you be wanting to work? L1 good, H1b bad...

If you think you may want to live their permanently, make sure green card sponsorship is part of the package.

You'll need a much, much higher salary than you think!

If the salary is great plus terrific health care package then go for it- I love Cali
