Feb 21 I booked a fairly expensive holiday, 2 centre, 5 nights hotel and a weeks cruise. We have to fly from Gatwick which is totally shite for us as we're north of Birmingham. Flight is 5pm in the afternoon so we dont need a hotel the night before and we get back into Gatwick late at night so we've booked a car park rather than a hotel with free parking. We go in 2 weeks.

Today I've had a phone call to say they've cancelled our flight and we're rebooked onto one flying to the other end of the island we go to first - longer transfer time - and at 9.20 in the morning. Wtf.

We'd need to leave home at 1.00am to be there in time or stay in a hotel which we'd need to pay for - but we've already paid for car parking which is no doubt non refundable.

Fully conscious that this is a 1st world problem and that we're very lucky to be going at all but they just don't care about anyones plans and costs. Grrrrrrrrr rant over

They’ve done the same to us today. We’re going to Northern Ireland for an event on the day we fly. It’s been booked and moved back for 2 years for obvious reasons. They cancelled the flight and put us on one at 9pm, flying from a different airport which would have meant we’d miss the event. We managed to get a flight on the Friday evening instead but couldn’t get a hire car for the night before or stay in the same hotel so we’ve had to book (and pay for of course!) a premier inn near the airport for the Friday night and will have to pay for taxis there and back as it’s 5 miles away.

Someone wrote on another forum the other day about a ryan air flight maon "you pay for a bag of shit, you have a bag of shit" and that's the point. My business QA glught hasn't been cancelled and I go to the airport knowing what to expect. If you choose an unsafe and incompetent way to scrimp on money, it's obvious you will not be enjoying a glass of champagne in your suite.

ImInStealthMode · 23/04/2022 16:03

@Thedogshouses easyJet are neither unsafe nor incompetent. Qantas (assuming thats what you mean by QA) also cancel or reschedule flights at times.

I don't know where you are, Australia if it is Qantas? Often easyJet or Ryanair are the only airline serving particular routes from the UK. If you want to go to that place you fly with them, it's not a question of 'scrimping'.

What a strange attitude.

ImInStealthMode · 23/04/2022 16:03

Qantas / Qatar. Anyway, they both cancel flights.

I have never been cancelled by Qatar Airways and fly about 10 times a year. Always arrive home early ahead of schedule and refreshed. If I couldn't afford it, I simply wouldn't fly. Sometimes I use offered on royal Jordanian business which is cheaper but seriously its not that much. I book my flight economy doh to lhr return for about 800 and then spend the same again upgrading to a suite both ways. Well worth it.

Thedogshouses · 23/04/2022 16:40

Never flown Qantas. Australia isn't a place I would want to go or live.

Frazzled2207 · 23/04/2022 16:44

This I was pleasantly surprised to find the airport parking was fully refundable when I booked

sorry you’re being inconvenienced. I can beat that for Easyjet shitness though.
on our last holiday abroad they cancelled our return flight and offered precisely zero other options from that option. Had to make our own way to a different french airport then fly back to a different uk airport and pay for two different hire cars and 2 nights in hotels. never again.

ImInStealthMode · 23/04/2022 16:44

@Thedogshouses Bully for you Hmm

WhatsitWiggle · 23/04/2022 16:54

If the flight and accommodation were booked at the same time, then you've got package holiday protection. Contact your operator, say the alternative offered does not suit you, and you're looking for x y z option. Or find an alternative yourself then contact them to say this is the flight you want.

ginislife · 23/04/2022 20:07

@Thedogshouses wtf are you on about ?? We've paid £2500 each for a 12 night holiday that includes 7 nights on a cruise ship. It just so happens that to get to our first destination they booked us onto an EJ flight which has now been changed. We made plans based on the itinerary. They've changed our itinerary. I'm not happy but it won't stop us going away. I will be pushing for the replacement flights to be nearer home though if possible.
