AIBU to ask why I’ve had 6 colds in five months?

I am in the middle of my sixth virus / bad cold since November. It’s taken me off work this time and again, I’m achy, sneezing, sore throat, bad tummy. I used to go years without a cold.

though I never tested positive, I did have covid at Xmas (confirmed by antibody test)

If you’re someone who never gets sick, why do you think so? Diet, supplements, luck?

if you’ve also had a bad run of colds and viruses recently, what do you put it down to?

All those things matter
Also
Once you have one you can end up a little run down and so less able to fight them off

Because we've had two years of lockdown and constant social distancing so people will get more colds etc than usual

TinySaltLick · 22/04/2022 18:08

I've had back to back illnesses for months now. I am assuming it is all the various colds being unleashed into a population which didn't mix for 2 years so there isn't any immunity / getting hit with variations which we weren't exposed to on a mass scale for two years

CounsellorTroi · 22/04/2022 18:18

I think vitamin D supplement helps.

WarmSausageTea · 22/04/2022 18:35

I’ve had a chesty cough and sore throat for the last couple of weeks; thought I was over it, but it’s back with a vengeance today. I had covid in September, I suspect that’s left me susceptible to bugs and less able to quickly shake them off.

Sorry, that’s not much help to you, hope you’ll be feeling better soon.

Moorlander · 22/04/2022 18:41

Again, not much help but I am in exactly the same position! Covid at Christmas and since then one cold after another, still poorly now. I work in a school so I think I am just condensing all the viruses I would have otherwise got over the last 2 years into 5 months! I am taking Vitamin D but it hasn't helped so far.

feelinglowandblue · 22/04/2022 19:29

Yeah I got so many since sept-feb but carried on with daily vit c, zinc, vit d and then echinacea immediately whenever my dd had a cold for the entirety of it and I’ve managed to dodge a few!

DrNo007 · 22/04/2022 19:34

I’ve been on high dose vits c and d and zinc since the beginning of the pandemic and had only one cold and mild covid since. I usually get two colds a year so for me the vitamins seem to have worked. I am not vaxxed.

AnyFucker · 22/04/2022 19:38

I haven’t been well since November. One virus after another. Had more severe respiratory symptoms in the last 6 months than the last 6 decades ! Had Covid over NY and I reckon again last month but not confirmed by testing.

After 2 years of on/off lockdown and SD our immune systems are meeting viruses as if for the first time

JoeGoldberg · 22/04/2022 19:43

Same here OP, one virus after another for the last 6-8 months, and we've all just had covid on the back of the last nasty virus in March. Kids are sick of feeling poorly and I'm so run down with it all as it just seem relentless.

Crazykatie · 22/04/2022 19:49

I assume you've had the Covid and influenza jabs all you can do is eat properly and take multi vitamins, that aside you probably need a holiday somewhere warm.
We had a bout of mild Covid in October and were really stuffed up over Christmas it just wouldn’t clear, however we had 2 weeks holiday in January with lots of hot sunshine. Everything cleared within 3 days and no issues ever since, I’ve had the same effect with previous mid winter sunshine holidays.

Jules912 · 22/04/2022 20:03

Same, I had some horrible chest thing ( not Covid) in September followed by a cold every month or so. In March I got a cold followed by Covid so hoping that's the end of it now we're getting out of winter!

Sagegreenvelvet · 22/04/2022 21:03

Yikes definitely not just in our house then.

i have daily vit D and other supplements but will make an effort to up the veg and add in vitamin c.

it does just seem absolutely bloody relentless.

I went through a bout at the beginning of the pandemic, I think I had it before it officially was announced as covid, I picked up a terrible flu thing that my husband brought home from a colleague who had flown in from Germany. from them on for over a year the colds were constant. I’d be just over one and it would start all over again 🙄I would immediately take those vitamin c effervescent tablets and next day I’d feel as though I was kicking it then it would begin again.

a dr suggested it was allergies. It has definitely lessoned in the past 6 months. I had never had a flu in my life until that first time.
