To feel sick with anxiety over work tomorrow ?

I feel so anxious at it. One of my managers there is really difficult. Moody, critical and I feel on edge whenever I am with her. I've even been close to tears today. She is always so disapproving of the slightest thing and the thought of going in tomorrow is making me cry. I am looking for another job but they don't grow on branches and don't want to temp as agency workers get treated terribly.

Oh that sounds awful. Do you get sick pay? Sounds like you could very genuinely go off sick with stress.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 19/04/2022 22:08

You poor thing. Do other people feel like this?

It is easier to cope if you have support from other people?

WhenTheNightFalls · 19/04/2022 22:22

Others do but they seem to cope with it better. Or respond with being silently angry rather than on edge and upset like I get. I feel so weak and pathetic. I am a grown woman for gods sake. I know I shouldn't let her get to me but it's so hard when I have to work with her all day. I really don't know how I will sleep tonight.

@WhenTheNightFalls I'm so sorry the manager is making you feel this way. I've been there and the dread in the pit of your stomach is awful. I too questioned why I wasn't strong enough to deal with it but people handle things differently and that's ok. Could you confide in someone else at work? Is there someone senior you have a good relationship with who you can talk to about how this person is making you feel.

Please take time out if you need it, you come first always

Sounds like your manager has eroded your self esteem. It’s nothing to be ashamed about. Make plans to leave.

Are you in a union? If so ask your rep for advice and support? If not join one ASAP so you will have support if it all kicks off further down the line.

Leaving a toxic workplace and bullying management was the best thing I ever did.

If she isn’t a nice person then I’m 99.9% sure that she’s just unhappy and bitter with her life so feels the need to bring others down.

You’re not weak, or pathetic. You’re a human.
(The job I left I would be in tears at my desk due to being bullied by a woman “manager” twice my age). I also felt pathetic at the time, would dread going in to work, was on anxiety medication. The lot. I needed to get the hell out of there.

Keep persevering with the job search, or is it possible to request to move to a different department in the business?

Also, if the manger in question uses any behaviour that can be considered as bully please report it someone higher up/HR. That’s the only thing I wish I did. Also join a union.

She is a crap manager, a good manger dupports their staff and takes a pride in helping them to achieve.

Next time she unfairly criticises you, could you say something like "can we have a word please" then take her out of the office and tell her that you feel she is being overly critical and unless this stops you will involve higher management.

What's the worst they can do? Sack you? You hate it anyway.

MadKittenWoman · 20/04/2022 19:40

Please make plans to leave. You are worth more than this.
