To think DVLA call centre doesn’t exist and considering the amount you pay for a provisional license the service is woeful

We need to change something quite important on my DD’s prov licence applications. It’s a short job.There is no way of contacting them. The phone cuts you off immediately so you can’t queue,all times of the day. There is nobody on the live chat either. We need advice so need to speak to somebody. Considering the price we’re paying for a license the service is dreadful.You’d expect better from a gov service.

Have you tried using Twitter to contact them? It sounds like a silly idea but I’ve had much more success in contacting several companies using this than phone or chat.

I have a bizarre name that isn’t accepted on their website as a name- slightly racist as it’s a common name in other cultures but that’s another story. But I can always get through so I wonder if something has happened? Have you tried social media?

Agree. We applied March 2021 and couldn't get through after last sept,her to chase it up anymore when it still said waiting for the paperwork they confirmed they had but wasn't registered as arriving on his portal.

It's now April 2022. We are still waiting.

But I used the gov site to find out how to complain. This did remind them they took my money 10 months before that.

I'll let you know when ds actually gets a licence!

I emailed back in October and still had no reply. I need to change my name on everything, car ownership, tax and driving licence and I want it to all go through at the same time so it doesn't void my insurance but can't get through to anyone!

DVLA is an absolute shit show, the worst of all public sector organisations. It needs a massive overhaul, I'd move it out of Swansea and pretty much start from scratch with a new system.

YANBU. They seem to have given up on any kind of service or productivity since Covid. I waited six months to have my photo changed on my provisional so I could take my test.

There could be a separate Talk category on MN for the number of threads about the DVLA performance, which must rank as the worst service of all if the information is representative.

I think the only reason I got a response was because I could evidence able bodied drivers who applied 5 months after ds and who were already driving on full licences and ds (who could learn to drive at 16 due to his disability) hadn't even had his provisional after 10 months of applying and therefore the service was disadvantaging disabled people and treating them less favourably.

I'm not sure they could even deny that because it was true.

I think they are either winding it down in Swansea or its already gone. They are opening a new contact centre in Newcastle, a hells kitchen for callcentres.
