I was looking for aquariums and this came up as one of the top hits on Amazon. The photos show two fish in this tiny glass jar.

It's only 10cm across!

Cruel, and yes, should be removed from sale

RishiRich · 19/04/2022 11:23

I've submitted a review with exactly what I think of it but I can't see any other way of complaining to Amazon about a product I haven't actually bought.

It's revolting.

AryaStarkWolf · 19/04/2022 11:40

That's horrible :/

Momijin · 19/04/2022 11:41

Yes. I think it is absolutely vile to keep fish in aquariums anyway. Like keeping birds in a cage or any animal really. A prisoner for your fucking entertainment.

Yeah keeping birds has to be the worst
LeevMarie · 19/04/2022 12:03

Oh god, that's awful. Does anyone remember a few years back there was a scandal about keyrings containing goldfish? Think it was in China.

yoyo1234 · 19/04/2022 12:04

That's awfull. At that size I thought may be it was designed for a solitary small plant.

Squiff70 · 19/04/2022 12:06

Poor fish! Obviously they need far more room but they also needs plants to forage in. Completely cruel and definitely should be taken off sale. You might want to send/Tweet/email the link to an animal welfare organisation just to make them aware.

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 19/04/2022 12:52

Terrible. The amount of waste the poor fish will be swimming in. Imagine these going green and neglected in teenagers bedrooms up and down the land.
So cruel.

10HailMarys · 19/04/2022 12:53

Absolutely horrendous.

A friend went to a wedding once where the table centres featured fish in tiny bowls as part of the decoration. Horrible.

decentchap · 19/04/2022 13:05

I have a small pond and prefer Newts.

Amazon will sell anything for a profit even these disgusting fish torturing devices. Write to Amazon and tell them they are aiding and abetting animal cruelty. Dint someone say in parliament that all animals (inc fish) are sentient ? Then there's the animal cruelty acts 2006 ?

mrziggycoco · 19/04/2022 13:31

It's absolutely horrific but our society does not respect animals. We eat them for goodness sake. I don't think they enjoy that either.

thereisonlyoneofme · 19/04/2022 15:26

Im sure its illegal,. but according to them several people have bought it
Would it be worth sending a link to one of the newspapers ? Dont know how to do this

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 19/04/2022 16:50

I had a very unsatisfactory discussion with Amazon customer service. Fish are protected under the Animal Welfare Act but not, it seems, under Amazon's policies.

EvilPea · 19/04/2022 16:52

I believe aquariums must be sold with a filter now. If my sketchy memory serves me right there was a law change to that affect.

However ebay and Amazon etc being international sellers don’t always need to adhere to those rules and regulations

Moochio · 19/04/2022 16:54

I think those fish must be photoshopped on? There's no way a fish would fit in that surely?

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 19/04/2022 16:55

How big is the aquarium you're looking for?

SpacePotato · 19/04/2022 17:04

Looks like what people use for terrariums, or xmas decs with a little scene in.

Could imagine some insta influencer having one with a bloody fish in one though.

Fulmine · 19/04/2022 17:17

They're currently censoring reviews due to "unusual reviewing activity". Strange that they can do that but not remove an illegal item from sale.

RishiRich · 19/04/2022 17:59

I only wanted a little one for transferring frogs back to their pond (we have tadpoles in for observation by the DC). I just put 'aquarium' into the Amazon search bar and that was one of the first results Angry

XenoBitch · 19/04/2022 18:04

I don't see a problem with the item itself. It looks like something you would use to put some terrarium plants in

But it absolutely should not be marketed as a fish bowl.

EvilPea · 19/04/2022 18:06

EBay or Facebook market place would probably be your best bet for a second hand one. Someone might even have one you can borrow

lemons44 · 19/04/2022 18:11

That's sad 😞

LovingLivingLife · 19/04/2022 18:21

Just went in to add another angry voice to their reviews but it seems I wasn't the only one who had that idea. Amazon have blocked anyone who hasn't purchased one from reviewing Hmm
