To ask about listening to music in the car ๐Ÿš—

Hippoevens · 17/04/2022 20:04

Normally I would ask DH but heโ€™s not currently speaking to me ๐Ÿ˜ณ

I donโ€™t like the radio, I want to listen to my own music when driving. However, most cars (including mine) do not have a CD player.

I have a memory stick which I plug into a USB port which plays music, but someone gave it to me and I donโ€™t know how to get the music on there in the first place- would I need to use iTunes or is there a different way to get music onto a memory stick?

Many thanks ๐Ÿ˜Š

Can you connect your phone to the car with Bluetooth? I play music, podcasts, audiobooks in the car using Spotify, audible and BBC sounds on my phone connected via Bluetooth.

W0lverine · 17/04/2022 20:08

If you can plug a memory stick in, you can probably plug a phone directly into it with an adapter? Or lots of stereos allow a Bluetooth connection with a phone. It depends on the model.

To add more music to the stick you would need to download it using a computer - iTunes is one way but there are others.

As pps have said, connect your phone instead

Goldijobsandthe3bears · 17/04/2022 20:09

God knows but Iโ€™m nosey about why your DH isnโ€™t speaking to you ๐Ÿ˜„

Get an adapter thing for your cigarette lighter and use the radio in your car to listen to music on your phone.

Itโ€™s because I wore a matching polo shirt at dinner with his family

Good idea about the phone. I have played music through my iPhone but is uses loads of data so Iโ€™m reluctant to do this

Get an FM transmitter- you choose a radio frequency to set it to (super easy) and then just tune your radio to that frequency and play whatever through Bluetooth; I listen to Spotify and also audio files on my phone. Be aware though obviously can't use your phone once you set off, so I make playlists.

Download the music to your phone then it wonโ€™t use data.

Alexa for your car. You can stream off Spotify/Amazon music etc. it's fab.

CapMarvel · 17/04/2022 20:14

If the car is new enough to not have a cd player it will most likely have android auto - so use that along with your phone.

Trudij123 · 17/04/2022 20:15

Husband is being a dick from the sounds of it ๐Ÿ˜ณ

I connect my phone to the car with the normal charger cable and play music through that :)

LtJudyHopps · 17/04/2022 20:16

Iโ€™ve not found streaming apps like amazon music / Spotify use much data personally - compared to YouTube any way!

LordEmsworth · 17/04/2022 20:17

You don't know how to get files onto a USB???

You plug the USB stick into a usb port on your computer, and go to your music, choose whichever songs and go copy - paste. Takes a while but you can have all your music on there so complete choice however long the trip.

I have a usb permanently in my car which has everything on it, for long journeys I download podcasts on to my phone and connect to the Bluetooth.

Beachsidesunset · 17/04/2022 20:17

Hippoevens · 17/04/2022 20:17

Ok thank you everyone Iโ€™ll look into this tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜

You can download albums, playlists, podcasts to listen to without using up your data.
Notanotherwindow · 17/04/2022 20:18

Just plug it into the USB port on a computer, it will appear as a drive in My Computer, open it, open the music folder, drag the mp3 files into it.

Obviously you need to download the music to your computer and save as mp3 files first but there are dozens of websites and software that does that for free.

Spotify. Download to phone. Sorted. I didn't think Spotify used loads of data but I've got a ridiculous amount of data that I don't use!

JaceLancs · 17/04/2022 20:21

Spotify app on phone which I Bluetooth connect to car audio

LaNozzeDiFigaro · 17/04/2022 20:22

Have you got Spotify or Apple Music? Or songs from iTunes saved on your phone?

I have Apple Music and it automatically starts playing through my car. This doesn't use data as the songs are saved to the phone. You can have them not saved to the phone.

What car have you got? We can help you work the menu.

Are you sure you haven't got a CD player in the glove box?

Iโ€™ve got a BMW M Sport. Definitely no CD player. I donโ€™t have Apple Music or Spotify but can easily download (I have an iPhone) are these subscription only? Thank you for your advice
