It’s a freshly painted house btw. Painters were finishing as we moved in.

Open the windows.

Is it Valspar paint?
I'm surprised that you can smell it I don't find modern paints really smell at all.

Plates of sliced onions and/or bowls of baking soda dotted around the rooms help to absorb the smell. Discard after use though, don’t eat.

Keep the windows and doors open as much as possible.

Windows were open all day. I’ve opened the windows again now. I suspect the smell is from dulux skirting paint

Chop an onion in half and leave it in the room where the paint is

I once painted a kitchen radiator with Wilko paint. Jesus we all gad headaches for days.

I cut 2 onions in half and placed them in the kitchen. Worked!

The onion trick really does work. Paint smells make me feel ill, but putting lots of onions cut in half round the house gets rid of it swiftly. It doesn’t make the house smell of onions either.

Bowls of baking soda

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 17/04/2022 08:39

Slice an onion in half.

Ok, onions in the living room and upstairs,

I can only smell onions in the living room now. Does that mean paint smell is gone now? Upstairs I can’t smell anything - not even onions . Do I leave onions longer ?

I also think it tricks you but if you smell onions and no paint 🤷🏼‍♀️

See how it is in the morning.

I can recall i might have sliced lemons too….

chubbachub · 17/04/2022 17:33

Lighting a candle will work too. Not just to cover the smell but to actually remove it.

Cut off your nose
