AIBU to think that not a single refugee will be sent to Rwanda?

This is nothing but a bone for the frothers to stoke up the culture wars. This will inevitably end up in court for years, the government will then be using any case to demonise the left, us against them. I bet they're really hoping the poster child court case will feature the most unsympathetic refugee they can find and will be all over the news in the run up to the next election.

Absolutely.

It would be so illegal.

It’s a very well timed mcguffin.

SleeplessInEngland · 14/04/2022 19:45

Some Twitter lawyers are theorising there’s so many holes in the scheme it’s designed to fail, then the government can blame “lefty lawyers.” Would put it past them, admittedly.

SleeplessInEngland · 14/04/2022 19:45

*wouldnt!

Kendodd · 14/04/2022 19:45

I know!
How thick do they think we are!

YANBU. It's a dead cat to stop everyone from talking about partygate. It's a pretty effective dead cat at that.

artisanbread · 14/04/2022 19:46

I have a feeling this was being prepared as a pre-election news item to attract a certain type of Tory voter but they've dropped it a bit early as a distraction from the fines.

secretsqizzle · 14/04/2022 19:51

YUP .. pure dead cat.

They think we are stupid.

Because we are... look at all the comments about Johnson being better than the other options..!!

Really .?

Literally ANYONE is a better option than a habitual lier as Prine Minister. !!

Lazy voters stop allowing this. Vote for anyone but this completely corrupt bunch !!

I am hoping you are all correct. Rwanda has an appalling human rights record.

StoneofDestiny · 14/04/2022 20:02

Scary we have just given £120 million to a dictatorship with a dire human rights record. This government has no shame.

Kendodd · 14/04/2022 20:04

I bet Nigel Farage and Tommy Robinson think it's a great idea.

OP posts:
Ireolu · 14/04/2022 20:07

Designed to detract from yesterday's news. Will wait to see what they pull out of the bag if there r further fines...

LeFeu · 14/04/2022 20:07

Well I really fucking hope so. What an utterly disgraceful suggestion. So, either way, Boris and Priti are both absolute self serving cunts.

Kendodd · 14/04/2022 20:11

Heard on the radio earlier that polling on this shows it's very popular with Tory voters.

OP posts:
MissChanandlerBong80 · 14/04/2022 20:14

No, not one single one - thankfully. But as @StoneofDestiny said, they’ve still handed £120m of taxpayers’ money to a government with a poor human rights record. So… that’s good.

StoneofDestiny · 14/04/2022 20:19

Nigel Farage was on Radio 4 today saying the Human Rights Laws should be abandoned so we can get on 'doing Brexit'.

Kendodd · 14/04/2022 20:20

Actually I wonder if the government have an even more sinister plan with this.

Lose Rwanda court case on human rights grounds.
Argue this means we need to bin human rights act and withdraw from European Court of Human Rights (always hated by Tories and Tory press).
Voters cheer this idea to the rafters winning Tories next election.

Notcontent · 14/04/2022 20:25

The whole things is just weird.

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/04/2022 20:25

I agree. LOOK OVER HERE SQUIRRELS.

Cynical, racist arseholes.

Notcontent · 14/04/2022 20:28

@StoneofDestiny

Nigel Farage was on Radio 4 today saying the Human Rights Laws should be abandoned so we can get on 'doing Brexit'.
Yes, I heard that interview! He was basically saying “yes, the people who we send to Rwanda will most likely get treated really badly - so we need to get rid of the human rights act so we can just leave them to it”.
tempester28 · 14/04/2022 21:18

I am not going to say this particular plan is a good idea but .... giving economic migrants a fraction of the money it costs to house them in miserable conditions in the UK, to set up lives and businesses elsewhere could be a good idea.

StoneofDestiny · 14/04/2022 23:05

So if Rwanda is going to be so great at housing, feeding, employing these migrants with our money - what do we need to learn from them?

Ohwellnevermindthen · 14/04/2022 23:10

@StoneofDestiny

Scary we have just given £120 million to a dictatorship with a dire human rights record. This government has no shame.
I'm sure that the money will just disappear into a black hole like everything else and the tax payer will pay for the square root of fuck all as usual. Not that I support this scheme one bit.
lightand · 14/04/2022 23:13

I read somewhere that women, children and married men are not eligible to go.
So people say, well every man is going to say that he is married in that case!

bellac11 · 14/04/2022 23:13

My OH has fallen for this, he is very very left wing (too ideological) and falls for this nonsense every time. ITS A SMOKESCREEN
