To let my 11 year old DD watch this musical?

My other account for this, I may get some heated feedback on this.

My daughter goes to a theatre group on Saturdays that has volunteering for older ones. Some of these volunteers also attend our local church. My DD found out through a lovely volunteer that they were doing a production of Jesus Christ Superstar in early May. Smile

My daughter loves theatre, musicals so it was quite unavoidable that she’d be recommended JCS.
I have seen this show live and enjoyed it VERY much (anybody else cry over could we start again please??Sad) but would it be suitable for my DD? Mixed opinions online.
She loves musicals like Hairspray, Grease and we watched Shrek the musical last week. She loved it!! She has the spirit.Grin

Would JCS be suitable? It touches on very heavy themes but she really wants to see it. Wwyd?

I can’t think of a single reason why it would be unsuitable. Why do you think it might be?

It would be fine for your DD.

It contains a story line known by millions and the music and dancing is always fantastic.

Definitely let her see it - she'll love it.

I was in an amateur production a few years ago and it should be fine. There are some scenes that she might find upsetting - it depends how they're going to do them - the whipping, Judas' suicide and the crucifixion.

Jcssupercar · 14/04/2022 14:27

Well some of the productions often have the crucifixion scene being quite graphic. Also some themes she may not understand like prostitution etc. I’d love to take her though if you agree it’s suitable. Classic theatre Smile

Can’t see that it’s inappropriate, or at least any more inappropriate than going into detail on the Bible story. It’s not got any real surprises and is a fantastic score. One of ALW’s best, imo.

Theimpossiblegirl · 14/04/2022 14:29

I would! It's a fab show.

VariationsonaTheme · 14/04/2022 14:30

Absolutely fine, it’s not like the story will be a complete unknown to her.

Blossomtoes · 14/04/2022 14:31

The prostitution isn’t explicit and there are some pretty horrible depictions of the crucifixion in most art galleries. You’re going to have to start exposing her to some less pleasant aspects of life soon or she won’t survive the real world.

ethelredonagoodday · 14/04/2022 14:33

Yep, i'd not have any concerns about it!
