To find it soul destroying looking after young kids ?

Mine are a bit older now but DH's godson who is 2 was here for the day yesterday and I was on childcare duty. It was so hard going. Kids of that age have such short attention spans and he wouldn't settle to anything. Didn't have the car so couldn't take him out and it was raining.
Got the play doh, books and cars out and he showed little interest, just wanted the TV on. Aibu to say looking after young kids all day is really boring?

We’re all different but it was the best time for me when mine were that age. Love newborn to about 13/14, then adults like they are now.
My son says I’m a control freak and that’s when I can be in charge!
I think he’s joking. Maybe🤷‍♀️

Hard work? Yes. Soul destroying? Not really, especially if they aren't your own and you get to give them back.

I guess it really depends on the temperament/behaviour of the child though. I loved looking after my little cousin when he was 2 - especially as I wasn't his parent so time with him was a novelty. I also very much enjoyed my DS at that age but it was much harder doing a 24/7 stint.

I think if they are your own or you at least see them regularly it's fine tbh as they learn stuff so quickly.
One random day is hell.

2 is a very difficult age to be fair!

PierresPotato · 13/04/2022 12:11

And an interactive kid is more fun, obviously!

AHungryCaterpillar · 13/04/2022 12:12

Why can’t you go out without a car? I have kids and I don’t drive we go out whatever the weather!

Howeverdoyouneedme · 13/04/2022 12:14

It can be certainly. If they’re difficult to amuse and in a whiny phase.

Yes but they are your kids. So you will have the wet weather gear you need.

Op might have nothing suitable for a rainy day outside for the godson.

I’m with you op 2 year olds are a pain in the bum.

I think it's just the tiny attention span. I got told the things he enjoyed and yes he does like cars etc but he will only play for about 10 minutes with them at most. I don't know how childminders/nannies cope with just 1 child of that age or younger, 5 days a week, long hours each day.
