Ocado problems - any other options out there?

I have a bad back and like most of us I have a busy life, so paying for grocery deliveries has seemed like a reasonable solution. It worked well as long as we had a street level entrance but now that we have moved to a flat with no lift (2nd floor), things are not going so well. The drivers are visibly annoyed at having to carry the deliveries up the stairs; items arrive smashed and broken as the bags are sometimes hoisted/thrown up the stairs. I get it, I don’t enjoy carrying heavy bags up the stairs either.

Any other options out there? Anyone live like I do in a building without a lift, and have you tried any grocery delivery services which work?

Yes, I have this problem - can’t use a lot of the companies as they won’t guarantee delivery beyond the first floor.

In my area Ocado used to be fine most of the time but now am increasingly getting grumpy drivers Iceland were quite good last time I used them, but don’t have the same range to choose from.

Waitrose. I always feel bad, but have similar reasons to you. have never had a driver be anything less than gracious and helpful. 2nd floor flat.

I think Ocado are probably the most accommodating of the delivery services. Plus the only one AFAIK that uses bags.

The rest bring the shopping loose in crates.

Maybe put a note on your Ocado account/delivery instructions explaining that you have this particular medical condition and need their support. I think the drivers are less grumpy if they understand why.

I have used Ocado for years and, similarly to you, I used to live in a second floor flat. I had one occasion when the driver wouldn’t bring the bags up, fortunately the neighbours helped. Other than that they’ve been fine. I do second the idea of mentioning this in the delivery notes on the order though - you don’t have to mention your exact condition; mine just said “For health reasons”.

Good idea to mention this in the delivery notes, that might help!
