Tree hugging

My LOVELY neighbours have a beautiful Silver Birch right at the end of their garden.

They are thinking of cutting it down to make room for a "man shed"

I get on very well with them but this makes me furious, especially since I learned that they do not see this as their forever home.

Want to say something and thinking of hugging it if they try to chop it down. I can see it from my house and it really is a thing of beauty.

Am I being unreasonable to say this to them, and risk ruining a lovely relationship?

YABU - None of my business...

YANBU - Go hug the tree....

Ah this is sad. Can you get a tree preservation order on it? They should opt for a treehouse instead

I voted YABU, because silver birch are short lived as far as trees go, and they are also prone to fungul diseases such as honey fungus. They aren't expensive or difficult to buy or propagate yourself from seed, so why not just grow your own? It will also screen the shed.

I love this forum! Great to hear from different perspectives when your own head has only one view!

Bring it on, and thanks, xx

Sure go ahead and interfere in their business and then prepare for a life of neighborly misery and disputes.

Second vote for a tree preservation order.
We did this in my neighborhood for a tulip tree. Council approved the order even though the roots are lifting up the pavement! Grin

Then OP can come on MN and complain about how her neighbor's treehouse overlooks her house, and they can see in her windows, etc.

I can imagine the outrage if OP came on here saying her neighbour was stopping her building a shed in her own garden because of a tree!

Encourage them to replace the tree with another once it comes down

Thanks All, Decided that my relationship with them is worth more than a damn tree. Have had horrible neighbours before so keeping schtum. Thankyou.
