Smear test, anxiety.

Sorry shamelessly posting here for traffic. I had a smear test yesterday and I bled during it. I am now panicking that I have cancer or something is wrong. I've been having panic attacks since my smear was done. I am early 40s with health anxiety.

Totally normal. I have bled through some of mine.

Calm down. Every smear test I had I bled because the speculum (is that what you call it?) was too big and caused damage. I never had cancer or anything else. Talk to your doctor as soon as possible about your fear. Also talk to your doctor about panic attacks. I'm sure it's nothing but get your mind put at rest.

I also bleed after every smear and they’ve always some back clear. Usually have spotting for a day or two which then stops, always been told by the nurse it’s completely normal.

I have only had one smear, but the nurse said that bleeding is normal because it is not normal for your cervix to be treated the way it is during a smear.

PurpleFlower1983 · 09/04/2022 23:42

I bled during my last one, it was clear, try not to worry. Flowers

MamaWeasel · 09/04/2022 23:44

I bled last month when I had mine, it came back as clear.

CockSpadget · 09/04/2022 23:57

It's absolutely normal to have some bleeding after a smear, they are scraping away at a very soft area. I've always bled afterwards, smears all clear.

WitchSharkadder · 10/04/2022 00:09

I'm another who has had a little wedding after every sneak I've ever had and my results have always been completely normal.

I am also a fellow health anxiety sufferer so completely get how one small thing spirals in your head until you're 100% convinced you're going to drop dead in the next 10 minutes. But I promise you you're not, a little bleeding is very common and very normal, a particularly brutal nurse once had me bleeding quite a lot and nothing bad happened to me apart from being slightly sore for a day. Take some nice deep breaths, make yourself a cuppa and then try and distract yourself from the intrusive thoughts with something nice or an inane game on your phone.

WitchSharkadder · 10/04/2022 00:10

A little bleeding....

I do not get married every three years ConfusedGrin

WitchSharkadder · 10/04/2022 00:12

And smear, not sneak. In my defence it's late and I've had a very long day being anxious that my painful shoulder is an imminent heart attack. (See, I totes get it)

steff13 · 10/04/2022 00:43

As others said, it's normal. I've been going to my gynecologist for many years, and he tells me every time I might experience bleeding.

Thank you all so much 💐 I so appreciate your kind words. @witchSharkadder your post made me lol. Thank you.

Totally normal! Your cervix is very delicate. I’ve bled throughout many of mine aswell as normal vaginas examinations too
