I work for a couple of different agencies (in 2 different industries, education and care) on zero hour contracts. There's always work available, i can make my own rota and take time off whenever I like/work as much or as little as I like. I like the independence and variety.
I've been doing this since January. It has its drawbacks, such as holiday pay being included in the hourly rate, and some places don't make you feel very welcome as an agency worker.
The group of friends I have from school have all more or less worked at the same place for over 5 years in a very steady career, and all have been promoted to higher/management positions.
I don't know if I will ever do that. People joke that they can't keep track of what I'm doing, but I feel happier not having a permanent role.
I am never out of work and earn a respectable amount that I can live on. I experienced workplace bullying in several of my roles and just got sick of workplace politics.
I hated being micromanaged and having to work to someone else's schedule.
Does anybody else work via agencies? I'm not saying I will do this forever but I don't see myself going back .
