To want somebody to do some work in my garden?

What do I have to do to get somebody to give me a quote to do some work in my garden? I need steps to my decking from a new set of doors.
I know all the joiners, builders and landscapers are booked up till august/September but I’ve been trying since last October? How can I get into somebody’s diary?

Am I being unreasonable? Am I not grovelling enough? Or am I sounding too desperate? Am I calling too often? (The people who have promised a quote then ghosted me) or calling too little? Giving up to easily? Am I not friendly enough? Too friendly?
People on here in the trades - please - what can I do??? I can’t just exit my door into a muddy trench forever 😢

Sounds like a very small job which is why no one is interested. Try a decent handyman.

I was also gonna suggest a handyman for the same reason. ask on your local facebook page for personal recommendations

If you've got a local community social media page it might be worth posting there what you need doing as someone local might be able to fit you in more easily in between jobs.

Or if you haven't already, post your job on one of the sites like mybuilder, that way any potential tradesmen know what kind of job it is before quoting stage so hopefully would weed out time wasters for you.

Good luck!

I've had success at getting tradies for small jobs on nextdoor.co.uk .

A joiner or builder will have lists of major jobs, not a few steps to someone's deck. That's DIY. No builder is going to waste a day or two on that when they can get thousands for real work.

Ok. IABU.
The handyman I first contacted said it wasn’t the kind of thing he could do and suggested builders / landscapers. I will go back to looking for a handyman.
I wish the builders and landscapers would just be honest rather than acting all keen and promising a quote is on its way. Why don’t they just say “sorry this job isn’t for us”. Thats what I do in that situation (I’m self employed).
