not sure what to do. OH has a big family party. he’s from the other end of the country so it’s not a car journey away. flights are about £75 and hotel would be about the same. so £150. i’d have to take two days off work (zero hour contract) so i’d lose about £150 too so would be more like £300 down. money is very tight atm i have about 200 to last me the rest of the month and still have bills to pay so would be an overdraft situation same for partner. would you take this trip? if it wasn’t for the money i would go but i feel sick thinking about how much it will cost to attend a party, but also feel guilty not going as his family want to meet our toddler

Could the hivemind of mumsnet help you find a better deal for travel and accommodation? Have his family ever met your toddler?
I'm not sure a party is ever worth getting in to debt for, I think I'd be inclined to say no if you can't find a more affordable way to do it.

Send your apologies (can’t take time off work) and say you hope they will be able to visit you to meet your toddler.

Is there a reason your toddler can't go with his Dad and you stay home

Since money is so tight so can your OH not take the LO on his own? So one less plane ticket to buy, you don’t lose the money from work but his family still get to meet them.
