To think it’s rude to comment when somebody farts?

Surely the polite thing is to ignore? I hate DH going on about it. I find it really embarrassing.

His farts or your farts?

Honestly the normal response in our household is giggling.

jelly79 · 06/04/2022 19:57

Completely agree!!!

Cstring · 06/04/2022 19:57

Not if it’s a DP, if it’s in work I would ignore it (out of politeness if it was not deliberate).

Casmama · 06/04/2022 19:58

Ruder to fart than to comment on it I would have said

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 06/04/2022 19:58

Laughter or 'pardon me' is the only response. Ignoring it would be weird in our house.

Angelsfart · 06/04/2022 19:58

I agree @Casmama and I don’t make a habit of it but I have to SOMETIMES!

Surely it’s really awkward to ignore the fart?! Like the elephant in the room

TheWitchersWife · 06/04/2022 19:59

My Nana who I love dearly farts loudly. We're talking leg raised, scrunched up face, loud farts. I have never once said anything, not made a face, smirk or remark. I just couldn't.

But DH gets in trouble for farting next to me.

omg i would divorce him GrinGrin
PinkSyCo · 06/04/2022 20:00

He goes on about it because he knows you are embarrassed about it. The way I see it you have 3 options…1) Stop farting in front of your DH. 2) Let one rip loudly right in his face or 3) LTB.

TheWitchersWife · 06/04/2022 20:00

When I say gets in trouble, I just mean I say ewww and if its particularly smelly to leave the room for the next one.
In trouble sounds a bit controlling, not how it was meant and definitely not how our household is.

SnowyPetals · 06/04/2022 20:02

It depends on the context. Member of your household at home, yes comment. Work colleague in a meeting or elderly person during conversation, ignore.

OutingHobby · 06/04/2022 20:02

What do you mean he goes on about it? Do you need to see a doctor?

Jalepenojello · 06/04/2022 20:02

If you fart audibly in public it’s fair game IMO. If you want it to be discreet, then do it discreetly Confused

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 06/04/2022 20:03

It depends who's doing it. where they are doing it and if it smells.

We need more context OP. Grin

girlmom21 · 06/04/2022 20:03

If you don't want him to mention it, don't fart in front of him.

If one of us farts, we'll say "pardon me" then that's that.

OutingHobby · 06/04/2022 20:03

I mean you have a fart based username so you can't be that modest about your farts

Lunar27 · 06/04/2022 20:04

Seriously. How can anyone keep quiet when somebody farts?

A fart deserves a response consistent with the volume, or worse, odour.

I'll get my coat.

XenoBitch · 06/04/2022 20:05

My FB newsfeed had an article on it today about a woman who held her farts in around her new partner, and ended up in hospital!

I ignore them in polite company. But if you know your audience, a decent ripper can have people laughing for ages.

Steelesauce · 06/04/2022 20:05

Farts are funny and ignoring it is weird. Usually we all blame each other though in our house Grin

Angelsfart · 06/04/2022 20:05

I don’t fart in front of him deliberately but he tends to follow me around so it’s hard to avoid him entirely.

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 06/04/2022 20:07

Haha you wouldn't like our household. We have a laugh about farts with all family. They are at the end of the day a bodily function and they are better out than in!

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 06/04/2022 20:10

Could be worse. My 8 year old blames his farts on our cat. Our cat who has been dead since October. He claims the cat is haunting him. Well they do smell a bit sulphurous.

WestminsterCrabby · 06/04/2022 20:12

I wouldn't comment if a stranger/work colleague did but my DH is fair game if it particularly stinks Grin

Bunce1 · 06/04/2022 20:14

If you feel so self conscious about it can you not do to the bathroom?

Or just laughter about it.
