Day 5 of Covid and still can't eat

Sorry posting for traffic.
I just wondered if anyone had similar Covid symptoms to me as I'd love to know how long they lasted for you.

On Weds I started with heartburn type pain and found it hurt when I swallowed. Not my throat, my throat is fine but my chest area. As soon as the food hits my chest it started to hurt. This got progressively worse and on Saturday I tested positive. Had some of the usual symptoms, headaches bad but other than that a sniffle, phlegmy throat.

However the pain in my chest/oesophagus is worse. It's a constant discomfort/pain which can be helped by pain killers but eating is too painful. I've eaten half a sandwich in 5 days and that was very painful (I took a load of painkillers before eating). Sipping water also hurts, as does eating I've lollies. I've not been drinking enough and today only managed a few sips of drink and an ice lolly.

I'm just wondering if anyone had similar symptoms and how long they lasted? I have headaches that spread to my eye and I'm wobbly and dizzy but I don't know if that's Covid or lack of food at this point. Thank you.

Are you taking any heartburn medication? My acid reflux played up horrendously both times ive had covid.
I used omeprazole and gaviscon.
You can buy both over the counter.

Could well be the lack of food that’s making you dizzy. My friend has covid at the moment and her appetite is diminished.

I think it would be worth ringing 111 to ask for advice as you are struggling to eat and drink.

@ofwarren I tried 4 days of omeprazole with no joy. Also been taking the chewable gaviscon and the medicine version, it doesn't help at all! Thats the issue, I'm struggling to eat and nothing helps the pain
It doesn't even really feel like heartburn anymore.

Hmm, I think I'd be wanting to speak to a doctor to be honest.
Try and see if you can get a telephone appointment.

I agree with PP that you should phone 111 if you are not able to drink much and feeling dizzy.
You can go a relatively long time without eating but if you get seriously dehydrated that can be pretty serious quickly.

Do just give them a ring and see if they can offer more support and advice.

A lot of people loose their appetite with Covid which makes eating difficult. I felt too nauseous to eat for several days. However, what you're describing sounds quite different. You can't eat because of pain.

I've not heard of anyone with that as a Covid symptom before. I know of pain in the chest and lungs when breathing but not what you're describing.

I think you need a telephone appointment with your GP or to call 111 tonight. You need to let a medical professional know what's going on to get their advice.

Illwithdisappointment · 05/04/2022 23:56

Thank you all.

@Lindy2 it's definitely an unusual symptom and I've not known of anyone else to have it, which is why j thought I'd try Mumsnet ☺️ I'm not particularly hungry today but yesterday I really wanted to eat, which is when I managed some sandwich but it really hurt and I gave up. Even swallowing a tablet hurts.

I didn't want to bother my GP as I know people get ill with Covid but I am wondering how long I can carry on struggling to eat and drink and don't think I'll really get better until I do so.

You have Covid. You won't be bothering your GP. You would be getting needed medical help.

I needed to speak to my GP when I had Covid as I got a secondary ear infection. They rang me back quickly and were kind and helpful. I don't think any GP feels that an unwell Covid patient is wasting their time.

I hope you start to feel better soon.

May call GP today.
I may awake half the night scared. Really dizzy and pulse was 120 BPM. Couldn't sleep because my heart was racing so much.

Please call your GP Flowers

Lougle · 06/04/2022 09:56

I lost my appetite completely for a week with Delta. Never experienced this. It sounds like you need advice from a doctor.

CorsicaDreaming · 06/04/2022 12:45

120BPM is a really, really high heart rate for an adult. My resting heart rate is nearly half that.

You really should phone 111 or your GP.

@illwithdisappointment how are you doing today?
