Cleaner- are my expectations too high?

Angryattrackandtrace · 05/04/2022 18:58

I had to let my (brilliant) cleaner go after she’s left my front door unlocked for a third time.

I have a new cleaner. I’ve had a few teething problems and honestly I’m not sure if my last cleaner was just great (except not securing my house!) or if my expectations are unreasonable.

So; she wasn’t mopping the bathrooms, or if she was it wasnt being done so properly as it wasn’t actually removing water marks.. so I replaced the mop and asked/ mentioned it needed doing.

She doesn’t move anything, at all, to clean so behind the toilet brush the floor was mucky (just cleaned upto the brush and pushed it to the wall), there was fluff/ dust / muck behind the paper waste bin and the pedi stool fan.

There was an empty bag left beside the spare bed today (forgot to move it) so that side of the bed wasn’t hoovered.

It seems very petty now. I can’t decide whether to have a word again (this fills me with dread) or just thank her for her services and look for someone new?

Not sure if it’s relevant but we live in the north, 2/3 bed (one isn’t actually big enough for a bed!) and they are usually here for an hour so are getting £22.50 and hour, use my appliances and products.

OMG you are definitely NOT asking too much. All that should be done particularly at the high rate you are paying. Find someone new!

longwayoff · 05/04/2022 19:04

Replace her.

Makinglemonadefromlemons · 05/04/2022 19:05

In my opinion you are not expecting too much!
They are not doing the job you are employing them for!
It may be worth doing a checklist for each room what you expect doing, but the person you currently employ is a lost cause in my opinion, 3rd time lucky.

hopeishere · 05/04/2022 19:05

Pedi stool fan??

My cleaner isn't brilliant but I like her and she tolerates the dog so I put up with it!!

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 05/04/2022 19:06

Can they do everything you want in an hour? I’d have thought that they’d need longer and are having to cut corners.

Angryattrackandtrace · 05/04/2022 19:12

@hopeishere- clearly a typo. Pedestal fan 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Idontgiveagriffindamn yes I agree an hour isn’t long enough… they quoted us for the job ( in which I wrote a check list of what I wanted including so they knew what I wanted) but they only ever are here an hour. I’m not a terrible person that checks up on them.. I just happen to have a ring doorbell.

They were £5 more than the last cleaner, however she hadn’t put her prices up in a year and I appreciate people need to earn a living.

@hopeishere - I have cats and it matters if they do/ don’t like the pets doesn’t it! 😬 I’d hate to think they were here and were cringing away from them!

That’s annoying as hell.

If they see a cat shit on the floor do they clean around that too?

Ours wouldn’t move things around the house (dirty dishes and the likes) but they’d always move things to clean under/around.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 05/04/2022 19:20

I think you need to say that you've noticed some areas are getting cleaned and ask her does she need extra time. An hour doesn't sound long enough for 2/3 beds + living areas.

SupposeItDoesnt · 05/04/2022 19:21

I pay £12/hour and my cleaner does the whole 3 bed hour and folds and puts away laundry in 2 hours! You are not asking too much - your cleaners have been doing a rubbish job.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 05/04/2022 19:21

I’m confused about the fan - is it in your bathroom?

Angryattrackandtrace · 05/04/2022 19:26

@JemimaTiggywinkle 😂 it’s in my bedroom. I’m a very hot sleeper!!

@Everydaydayisaschoolday see this is my am I unreasonable… I kinda feel like if they can’t do it in an hour, they need to stay longer and do the job for the price they quoted. But I feel like a bitch for saying saying it as I don’t know if it’s unreasonable.

My husband shrugs his shoulders and says he’s not noticed.

I think one hour for a three bed house isn't enough. They're probably having to cut corners.

Angryattrackandtrace · 05/04/2022 19:29

@catfunk I don’t actually pay them for an hour, I pay them the quoted £45.. they chose to do it in an hour. But I don’t feel they are really doing the job they quoted.

OP posts:
Fairyliz · 05/04/2022 19:29

Is it really worth all of the hassle for an hour a week?
If you are your DH split the work that’s less than five minutes a day for each of you, surely you can pull that in?

JemimaTiggywinkle · 05/04/2022 19:33

That makes sense, I was wondering if bathroom fans were a new mumsnet trend.
Cleaners sound rubbish btw, I don’t think your expectations are too high.

Angryattrackandtrace · 05/04/2022 19:33

@Fairyliz yep it’s totally worth it in my opinion I work long hours and do the extra stuff (pulling sofas out etc) in half term. My husband does other stuff that makes the load fair.

TheSnowyOwl · 05/04/2022 19:35

I think it’s perfectly reasonable to expect a cleaner to clean well and leave your property secure.

ManOhNoBlahnik · 05/04/2022 20:07

I thought the pedi stool fan was some kind of niche toenail polish drying device 😂

But yanbu op re the cleaning!

bigbigbabyboy2022 · 05/04/2022 20:19

Get rid ! Absolutely rubbish cleaner. Completely unacceptable to ask for money when doing such a rubbish job. 1 hour is NOT enough. Lazy cleaner. Get rid NOW

SniffMyQuiffyHair · 05/04/2022 20:28

I think you have to be upfront and say that the jobs that they agreed to aren't getting done properly, point it out to them
If I was rushing my job to get off early my boss would bollocks me
I'd say something sooner rather than later

LumpyandBumps · 05/04/2022 20:36

You pay £45?
So are you paying that for just one hour, or are there 2 cleaners working for one hour?

LuaDipa · 05/04/2022 20:40

Is this Molly Maid? We had similar with them. The manager quoted £100 for the full job as discussed on the visit, then the poor cleaners were running round my house trying to get it all done in an hour and a half. Obviously it wasn’t up to standard.

Angryattrackandtrace · 05/04/2022 21:10

@LuaDipa- no. It’s husband/ wife private business

Angryattrackandtrace · 05/04/2022 21:15

@LumpyandBumps- 2 cleaners ☺️
