Posting for traffic

Has anyone flown from manchester recently? The state of it on the news is worrying me.

My child is autistic and I'm wondering how much support will be available with the hidden disability lanyard for fast tracking/priority boarding etc.

Has anyone experienced going through the airport recently while needing this support?

Thanks everyone. We're flying at 11.30am on Sunday. Not sure what you can do other than be there 3-4 hours before the flight. I've just booked fast track with the airline, for what it's worth. Good luck everyone travelling!

We flew from T2 on Monday. The check in was 12.15 but it has been brought forward without our knowledge, so when we got there at 12ish there was no queue at all. The security queue took 49 minutes (no fast track) I’d been seriously stressing after seeing the stuff on Twitter from Friday but it was fine

That's a relief! Smile

Flew from T1 today, got there at 2.45 am for a 7.25 flight with Ryanair. Greeted with a massive queue as baggage drop not open, it opened about 3.15. This took just over an hour, as did security, so we got through by about 5.30. A bit early! Think it was worse after us though as the massive queue got more massive waiting for baggage drop to open. It was worth getting there when we did.

I fly from there soon with my ADHD child so can update soon x

JC12345 · 10/04/2022 04:30

In t1 there is a separate lane to go through near the special assistance desk (on far left of check in desk area). It's where the wheelchairs/hidden disability travellers/staff go through and was fairly quiet (and not near normal security area) when we went recently.

@orrrangessandlemons in same boat also worrying will be first time ds has flown hoping we can fast track through due to his asd.

I flew out from Manchester yesterday with my child who has ASD. We had special assistance with Jet2 and he wore a lanyard. We were taken to the front of every queue and were first on the plane. The worse queue was to get into the bars/restaurants in the terminal. I would advise you to keep calling your travel company to get special assistance sorted - they will send you paperwork that you can just show to the staff at the airport who direct people where to go and they will send you to the front. Even without that, the lines were long but seemed to be moving steadily and people were calm. Good luck

I was on hold last week to Tui for an hour before they finally answered. I wanted to arrange special assistance for my son, she said head to the special assistance desk, no mention of paperwork or sending me a letter or being booked in? I'm worrying now.

winewolfhowls · 10/04/2022 07:56

We went last week and it was generally hideous but I have to say I did particularly notice that the staff were being amazing with a variety of people who were being taken out of the queue and fast tracked for various reasons. Definitely ask!

Fred578 · 10/04/2022 09:15

@PinkDaydreams I wouldn’t worry. I flew with Jet2 so it was sorted through them. Tui might be different. I would also advise you all to put a charger in your hand luggage as when you get through you can plug iPads etc back in before you get on the plane. We sat in one of the burger bar type places up the escalator and there was a plug at the table.

cardy1969 · 10/04/2022 09:43

Just walked straight through both luggage check in and security at Manchester Airport. No queue. Fastest I've ever done it. Hope it stays that way for anyone else travelling in the next few days.

PinkDaydreams · 10/04/2022 10:37

Thank you @Fred578. Also good tip regarding charger!

PinkDaydreams · 21/04/2022 07:41

I don't suppose there are any updates? Or maybe no updates could mean that things have improved 🤞

Teacherontherun · 21/04/2022 17:47

I flew out from T1 at the weekend, from arriving to setting down with a coffee in departure was 45 mins! The delays in security were caused by the idiots who STILL try to take liquuds through, soooo many people saying " but it's just shampoo/ foundation/ body wash". The biggest queue was at the other end at passport control, although I suspect there an element of smug punishment for bloody brexit there.

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 21/04/2022 18:01

I flew out of T2 with Tui on 10th April. Arrived at 5am for an 8am flight. We were through checking bags in 15 minutes and security in 10. We were waved through as we had a toddler in a pushchair but the other security lines were really short anyway.

PinkDaydreams · 21/04/2022 18:21

Thank you both so much for replying!

I'll be taking minimal hand luggage so as not to risk any delays and get through security as quick as possible! I've warned DH to put all liquids in his suitcase as he's been known to hold us up due to a rogue lipbalm in his pocket!!😂
