Baby due in October and we're trying to get organised, both eligible for SPL with maternity policies giving 6 months enhanced maternity pay, 3 months statutory and 3 months unpaid (different employers).

We just want a simple split, with me taking my 2 weeks maternity and then DH and I splitting the the remaining 50 - however we're finding it very difficult to discover how much pay we would actually be entitled to and how our policies interact!

I have heard of cases where both partners have managed to take their portions of SPL at the enhanced rate, and cases where what the mother claims is deducted from what her partner is entitled to.

How on earth do you find out which case applies?

I know the obvious answer is to ask HR but neither of ours seem to have a clue and it's a bit of a nightmare. It really seems as though they'd rather people didn't pursue it tbh.

Does anybody have experienced of SPL, and how did the pay work out in your case?
