Is anyone else’s hay fever unbearable?

Sorry just posting quickly because of traffic.

I just wondered if anyone else’s hay fever has been crazy already this year? Usually I’m able to control mine with one cetirizine hydrochloride tablet but for some reason it’s barely touching the surfaces. I now take two a day along with nasal spray and I’m still struggling?! I have a constant runny nose yet when I try to blow hardly anything comes out. I know this is such a small problem but it’s so annoying😂 I’m also 37 weeks pregnant so I just don’t have time for this.

Wondering if anyone else’s medication is hardly working at the moment?

David Baddiel's apparently (I follow him on Twitter)

i have been sniffing and coughing like a plague victim since the sunny weekend before last, suddenly realised and started the antihistamines, woke up the past two mornings fresh as a daisy!

I generally start with loratidine and then add in certirizine as required.

It's tree pollen isn't it at this time of year?

Nitgel · 04/04/2022 14:45

Yes am on 180 fexofenadine and have had a completely blocked ear for over a week. Dr prescribed nasal spray as possibly could be hay-fever related.

babywalker56 · 04/04/2022 18:54

Ooo okay well happy to know I’m not alone😂
I may have to contact the GP at this point as I just don’t understand why my usual medication isn’t doing anything

Yes mine is a nightmare. Always the same with tree pollen, it doesn't even matter what the weather is like, constant stuffy nose and itchy eyes.

Anomalocaris · 04/04/2022 19:04

Yup, bloody awful.

I've ended up taking up to x5 AHs (cetirizine and fexo) as well as baseline of asthma preventer, nasal spray and eye drops, and it's still awful. I ended up doing an online consult with a Boots doctor thingy to get Dymista, as I think it's all that's left to try.

I'm using a hepa filter in my bedroom-come-study which provides some relief.

Meggie2008 · 04/04/2022 19:18

Yes, I'm on prescription fexofenadine and feel like I want to claw my eyes out

Hankunamatata · 04/04/2022 19:21

Fexofenidine but montelukast was game changer. Dymista nasal spray is pretty good too. Weirdly removing dairy has helped with sinuses and mucus.

@Anomalocaris right! I have asthma and I’m taking tablets, eye drops and nasal spray for my hay fever and nothing is even touching the sides. It’s so ridiculous. I think I’m going to have to contact the GP because I genuinely cannot take this anymore

Deco is now available OTC, game changer for me

sciencepotato · 08/04/2022 15:28

I have poorly controlled asthma. Dymista was the only med that helped my congested nose. In addition, I take cetirizine too. Just dreading to get pregnant and not be able to take it as they seem to be reluctant in prescribing antihistamine plus steroid sprays in pregnancy.

Kjled · 08/04/2022 22:46

I’m the same I got diagnosed with a few allergies a coupon of years ago and usually just take an antihistamine every day. The last couple of weeks have been terrible itchy runny eyes. I got a nasal spray from the chemist but today the itching in the roof of my mouth is driving me mad ! I filled the e consult form in on my GPs website to see if they can suggest anything else.

Noideaatall · 08/04/2022 23:16

My DP has this, and recommends wheat grass powder (you can buy it online.) He swears it practically cured his hay fever. I don't mind the taste but you may find it revolting though!
