Why online dating apps do not work - the pros and cons of dating apps

Met a friend (we both have very inquisitive minds) last week and we discussed why despite so many online dating apps out there, it is still so hard to find suitable partners. Did the app misunderstand love? Or we are expecting too much.
Of course there are successful cases, please do share your stories and thoughts on this too.

I’d imagine that the main problem with apps for people who want something long term is that they exist in the first place - so there will always be an endless stream of people to replace you. It’s a kid in a sweet shop situation for men especially.

I’ve recently split with my DP after 9 years together. I’m dreading dating again after all the horror stories I hear on here. I met a few nice men last time I was on there, but that was 10 years ago and it sounds like things have changed. I’m not hopeful about it and not sure my skin is thick enough for it this time round tbh.

No, I am not writing any articles, I am a tech person. :) Just a curious person in general, especially after watching this video from school for life.
