To change contract knowing i am about to take a week authorised sick?

New boss
He’s identified that i am on a “lesser” contract to other employees (long story. I’ve been there for longer than anyone else so on old contract).

The only change is that there’s an enhanced sick pay.

I am shortly due to have an operation. And will need a week, perhaps 2 off. It will beGP signed off.

Should I wait until after op to sign?
Should I tell boss about upcoming op and need for sick leave BEFORE I sign?

Thanks

Nope. You should have been on the better contract anyway

Tell your boss and let them decide. My guess is they will appreciate your honesty and get you to sign it before your op anyway as they'll appreciate your honesty. The reason they want you to sign it so your treated same as anyone else.

So refreshing to see someone being upfront and honest. You sound like a nice employee

Upcoming op is irrelevant to your contract and its not like you're about to take a job knowing you're about to start maternity leave. Your current contract is unfair, that's all there is to it.

Thank you
I will tell him about the op
And hope still happy for me to move on to new contract beforehand

It absolutely shouldn't make any difference to you being offered the contract
VodselForDinner · 03/04/2022 13:17

You’d be mad to tell him.

It sounds like you should have been on this contract all along, so why spend a minute longer than you need to at a disadvantage?

BuanoKubiamVej · 03/04/2022 13:18

No you should have been on the better contract already. Your bods has correctly spotted a discrepancy where there is an unjustifiable difference that could be construed as age discrimination (if the reason you are on an old contract is that you are older than most others). You don't need to disclose your imminent need to use the better sick pay and it shouldn't make any difference whether you do or don't. If you disclose it before the contract switch and then they drag heels about transfer to the new Ts&Cs I would be suggesting legal advice but there's no need to do that, just get onto the revised contract asap.

No.

Don't tell boss. You don't need to "warn" him or anyone and you might start making people wonder why you're doing so.

You're not doing something dodgy here. You're being put into a contract which is there exactly to help protect you in this stuff.

Sign contract and keep going with life as planned.

For all you know the op could be cancelled or delayed anyway!
