A family who I'm friendly with. It's a series of things: asking for lifts (and never even offering to pay petrol, when minicabs are easily available), taking a very expensive item which we were selling and not paying anything, having their kids party in the park and not providing any food other than a packet of crisps per child, and nothing for the adults. No entertainment either or party bags. I even bought the drinks for everyone! Now saying that I can't use their compost bin, which I had previously paid for, as I didn't pay this year's contribution in time. I've been working a really demanding job, and honestly I thought after everything they wouldn't quibble over a few pounds. I think find the imbalance here quite grating. Aibu?

Why are you friends with such users?

DowntonCrabby · 02/04/2022 13:56

Well you clearly have different ideas of budgeting so I’d try to take any financial aspects completely out of the friendship of you wish to continue it.

You were a complete mug to allow them to take the expensive item you were selling.

How they choose to fund/do parties is their choice and rude to comment on.

Stop giving them lifts.

Why do you let them take things without payment, or buy drinks for their party? Stop being so free towards them with your own money!

Time to start challenging it rather than letting it happen again and again and again.
