So… we’re travelling over to see the family mid July. We’d like to stay somewhere either South or South west of London for a week or so first where there is stuff to do but you can also just chillax and watch the world go by too. Open to anything really although we’d rather keep expenses down. If you have any ideas or experience of this type of break , please post! Thank you in advance.

Where are you from? You may like the Isle of Wight - lovely beaches and tourist stuff and quite easy to get to from London.

I’m from Newcastle originally but currently living abroad. Want to try something a bit different to the north. I’d forgotten about the IOW! Thank you

No worries :)

Obvs Windsor can be a bit pricey but it has 2 train stations really centrally so if you check out the stops there are quite a few cheaper places around where you could stay in a hotel for less and just do a couple of stops on the train to go in and out. Egham for instance, or even Staines.

Also easy to go into London for the day if you wanted to :)

Isle of Wight!

The New Forest is lovely for children - there are lots of hotels/b&bs/holiday parks so something for every budget (we usually get an AirBNB).

There's loads to explore and you don't need to spend a lot. You can go for walks and picnics with ponies grazing nearby and the whole place is very family friendly. There are water parks, museums, Peppa World at Paultons Theme Park if the kids are into it, the New Forest Wildlife Park and also Beaulieu motor museum which has a fantastic new kids adventure playground. We're going for the third time this year Smile

Another vote for the Isle of Wight.
My family live there. Lots of lovely beaches. Good activities for children.
