Dreaded iPhone upgrade minefield

Shamelessly posting in AIBU for traffic.

My old trusty iPhone 7 is on its last legs, the battery needs to be on a constant power IV drip or else it slips in and out of consciousness every few minutes, it also seems to do a long squint whenever it opens a photo and the old gal Siri is ready to retire.

I absolutely HATE having to upgrade though, if been putting it off for so long, I thought if I wait long enough the process will be simpler. Wrong. How the F do I do this? It’s so complicated yet should be really simple.

If I’m on O2 does that mean I have to upgrade with O2 or can I get a new O2 contract instead? I’m sim only at the moment and I’ve figured out I’m happy to pay up to £40 per month but I don’t know if I need more storage 128/256GB or anything more than 30GB of data. The O2 upgrades on my app are a bit crappy compared to the offers on other places such as mobilephonesdirect.co.uk, should I ring O2 or just order online? Can I keep my number?

Help. 🙏🏻

I feel your pain as did thus recently
You can speak to o2 and get a new contract with new phone
You can move to another supplier eg Vodafone and have your number moved over, very easy
You cannot stay with o2 via a third party supplier , take out a new contract and keep your number ( this was the bit that surprised me)
I found the best deal by actually going in to the shop and dealing with a very nice guy.ended up with a better deal than I could find anywhere on line and actually a new phone for less than my previous monthly payment

I got a new iPhone 11
30 gb data
Unlimited calls texts etc
2 year contract for £28 per month

@Lolabalola which network was this with? Thanks 😊

3 I’m guessing as Martin Lewis recommended it. Just be aware that the plus models last longer as they often have faster processers. My iphone 7 plus is still running well.

I prefer to buy outright still managing on iPhone XR with a cheap sim only plan

I’m in the process of this hell also!! You can call O2 and see if they will match any deals you have found on other sites. But be aware, they will do everything in their power to hard sell to keep you on their network. If you go with another provider then you can request a PAC number from 02 which means you can transfer your number over.

Question10 · 30/03/2022 23:12

Uswitch is a good comparison site

Vodafone
I was already with them
The online upgrades they offered were really expensive
I called and spoke to someone but they were as much use as a chocolate teapot
Guy in shop was super helpful , sorted everything
