To think there should be a special hospital for men when they're ill?

So we are on our 3rd cold in the last 5-6 weeks. For the baby and toddler, it bounces off of them. For me each one drags on for 2-3 weeks, feels like it's not over before the next one comes. For DH it lasts up to a week, and hes a fucking wimp about it.

Let's set the scene: I've been having max 4 hours sleep for a few nights in a row, I finally get a night where my night owl toddler goes to bed early which means i can too. DH comes to bed and clears his throat for literally 5 HOURS. 🙄
Lots of sleeping on the sofa all day / in bed all day. Lots of being dramatic, not in words but body language. Cant leave the kids with him because he seems completely incapable of looking after them. He won't get up to help them or change a nappy, he's too ill. Just pissing me off. He can clearly see I'm struggling, but will lay there on his phone watching videos while I juggle everything til I almost pass out.

Anyone else's DH like this?

AIBU to think I should ship him off to a man flu hotel so someone else can deal with his bullshit attitude?

It is the Dressing Gown of Doom effect and it is surprisingly common, OP.

I like the idea of a special hospital to send them all to.

DancinOnTheCeiling · 26/03/2022 23:38

Hahaha brilliant 😂😂. Sorry to hear it’s like that though @tillylula, I hope you get some sleep and he snaps out of it!

Rewis · 26/03/2022 23:44

My bf becomes the completely opposite martyr. He hasn't emptied the dishwasher in 2 weeks but when he's sick he crawls out of the cave in his dressing gown of doom and his snifrel shuffel and suddenly decides to do all the chores around the house while loudly sniffling and clearing his throat begging for praise for his sacrifice.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 26/03/2022 23:47

At the first throat clear tonight tell him once more & he's on the sofa for the night. You need some sleep.

tillylula · 26/03/2022 23:52

@CoffeeBeansGalore he's been on the sofa 95% of the time in the last 5-6 weeks I'd say. He's already there now 🤣 it's the lack of wanting to help me atall. It's like having another child that can look after themselves but won't 🙄 I want to get him his own bedroom 🤣

Lol, I am certain that all men have this affliction!

VeganGod · 27/03/2022 00:07

No, my husband isn’t like this.

Don’t have any more kids with him if you think he’s just a lazy twat.

GreenNewDealNow · 27/03/2022 00:10

It must be impossible to have respect for him.

chelle0 · 27/03/2022 00:17

You ship him out to man flu hospital and change the locks as soon as he's out. What a dick. He's an adult, not a child. Tell him to grow up.

CityHigh · 27/03/2022 00:34

Omg I thought mine was the only one who did the incessant throat clearing. It drives me crazy.

MrsSugar · 27/03/2022 00:38

My MIL (who has 4 sons) often tells me and my SILs that men would be best kept in some sort of gated community together and only let out to do useful things lol !! Women are much better at just cracking on and helping each other

EthelTheAardvark · 27/03/2022 00:46

Currently suffering from the constant throat clearing here. I get it that you can't help coughing, but surely you can exert some degree of control over throat clearing, if only to prevent your DW having to have an almighty fight to suppress her homicidal urges?

This. And the loud nose blowing, heavy sighing and coughing so loud my soul leaves my body in fright every time he does it. But God forbid I so much as sniffle when I've a cold. I get the frown eyes and told I'm keeping him awake at night 🙄😒
itsgettingweird · 27/03/2022 07:44

Is go for the opposite.

After than soft him off to the man flu hotel.

Take yourself to a lovely hotel for the night leaving him at home with the children.

It's amazing how much men can do for themselves and their offspring when necessity sets in!

GahAndTheBear · 27/03/2022 07:49

This hospital should be staffed by no nonsense nurses who do not tolerate pretend dying.

Yoohoo778611 · 27/03/2022 08:28

I had an operation for breast cancer last year.
The beginning of march DH had an operation to remove 4 deep moles.(not cancerous)
I was up and dressed the next day. He stayed in bed for 3 days as in his words
he was in SO much pain. And yes he got his dressing gown to walk 2metres to
the bathroom.
Even the grandchildren laughed at him.

Ghostlyglow · 27/03/2022 08:40

When DP has any sort of "medication" he carries it around with him everywhere. Usually it's a packet of paracetamol, or something like that. Currently his hands are dry so it's a tube of handcream Grin

Don't forget the shouty sneezing at several decibels, followed by at least a couple of "Oh dears" and a minimum of 40 minutes of sniffing and snorting.

I am loving the idea of all these performance cold-sufferers incarcerated together, desperately trying to outdo each others' noise levels and keeping each other awake.. They'd have to issue very effective earplugs to the unfortunate nurses.

EthelTheAardvark · 27/03/2022 10:40

And it should have a total ban on Dressing Gowns of Doom.

Thanks for all the replies. Glad im not the only one who experiences this bullshit 🤣
