How to make a buffet more colourful?

Sorry for such a basic question! I'm exhausted and my brain is very slow!

I'm doing a birthday tea next week for my DD (turning 10). It will be just me, her dad, brother and 2 grandparents. So just doing basic, sandwiches, crisps, cocktail sausages. Will do houmous and cudites. But just worried it will look a bit boring? I may be overthinking!

It does sound a bit beige and brown.
a bright red and green tomato and cucumber salad might jazz it up a bit and the ingredients aren't too dear if no one really eats it

BruceAndNosh · 26/03/2022 12:10

I know it's very 80s, but a garnish on each serving plate will make things look more colorful

Treebranches · 26/03/2022 12:11

Party rings! They’ll add some colour.

Persephoned · 26/03/2022 12:11

I wouldn’t worry! Red pepper and carrot for crudités with hummus, cheese and pineapple on sticks…and some garish party rings???

Onlyforcake · 26/03/2022 12:12

Well go variety of colour on the veg for dipping and spread them through the others in dishes.
A fruit salad for a desert in a glass bowl too.

40Jem · 26/03/2022 12:12

More dips? Guacamole, salsa etc

Duracellbunnywannabe · 26/03/2022 12:12

Strawberries, blueberries, grapes.

BarryKentPoet · 26/03/2022 12:12

Jelly, fruit kebabs, salad, bright cupcakes.

Daisy62 · 26/03/2022 12:16

Yellow and red cherry tomatoes. Radishes. To go with the guacamole.

Babymamamama · 26/03/2022 12:18

When I do a sandwich/buffet platter I always pop some mini cherry tomatoes and sprigs of flat leaf parsley in between on the platter. Much more appealing on the eye.

BestZebbie · 26/03/2022 12:20

Multicoloured tortilla chips (from Sainsburys) for dipping. Colourful napkins and/or paper plates. You could put confetti on the tablecloth if you love hoovering up confetti. :-)

Thanks for all the great ideas!

Platter of blueberries, strawberries and mixed grapes, carrot and cucumber, different colours of cupcakes.

ChazzaGirl · 26/03/2022 12:27

A small fruit platter will add some colour (kiwi fruit, red apples, berries etc), and as pp said, the crudités will provide colour too - I normally do carrot sticks, cucumber and peppers.

PeacefulPrune · 26/03/2022 12:29

Strawberries
Pineapple chucks
Cherry tomatoes
Slices of red pepper...to dip in the humous
Carrot sticks
Purple grapes

jellybeanteaparty · 26/03/2022 12:43

My showstopper (as in everyone seems impressed) for a buffet that is so easy is fruit or veg on a board or square plate arranged in rainbow order so strawberry's, satsumas, banana, green grapes, blueberries, black grapes.

Old plastic bottle or other containers
Fill with flowers or fruit or leaves or veg & water
Freeze
Remove plastic
Use as a display item

Bunches of daffodils

Use coloured paper hanging decorations (instead of balloons)

Coloured table cloth

Bunting

Snoken · 26/03/2022 13:55

I would probably do a cheese board with different jams, quince, fruit and crackers to go with it.

Love these ideas, thank you.

I am going to have some fruit but will be for dessert to go with the cake.

Party rings will come out at the weekend for her party! 😋

Think I'll go with some garnishes and some daffodils in vases. Also might have a go at the ice decoration.

Cheese and pineapple hedgehog

Lovely ideas here- anything beige like sausage rolls etc and sandwiches- I throw quite a bit of rocket leaves on top- plus as the pp said a rainbow platter of veggie sticks with hummus in the centre looks lovely. Have a good party
