Chronic constipation 6 month old baby boy

6 months old. Weaning, puréed foods and constipation. He went 3 days in one 7 day week, that was with a full sachet of Movicol. He fusses and struggles until he successfully produces a bowel movement. They are explosive a lot of the time, even prior to Movicol and weaning when he was EBF.

I’m anxious to move on to more lumpier foods and then eventually him eating what we eat. I’ve tried the P groups; prunes, pears blah blah. Orange juice, massage, pretty much everything and he still becomes constipated. He drinks water regularly around 5 ounces a day not including the water he has with his Movicol.

Any similar stories that later resolved itself? Do you think there could be an underlying cause that requires further investigation? Very anxious first time mum so any advice, support or knowledge is appreciated.

I don't know if this would help but when my son was a baby he would struggle to go (not constipated but would struggle often as he wasn't clearing his bowels properly) so after doing online research I found that if you gently press on their bottom / hole or just below the hole it helped to release gas and poo.
