Gloating about not having covid as bad as someone else

Am I being too sensitive here.. it's not really a big deal but just kind of irked me the wrong way.

A bunch of us have covid at the moment. I wouldn't say I've had it particularly bad. Pretty congested, not really a cough or temperature. Just nasal congestion.

Anywho a lovely 'relative', felt it was important to gloat about how much less affected she's been by covid than us.

Because I guess she's ' so much younger ' than my husband and I. She's in her twenties and we are in our thirties. She said, oh I'm not surprised you guys have it SO MUCH worse than me. I'm a young, fit and healthy girl and you're not that much older, but you are older...

I've not really said that we have been particularly ill or anything like that. Just that we are congested and have a cold. She's had a cough and a bit of congestion as well.

Firstly I'm not sure why she thinks she's been so much better off and secondly, it's just annoying to have it pointed out anyway in this way ? Or is it just me being extra special and covid sensitive? Or it's a confrontation with our age that I'm not comfortable with?

She’s a knob. The worst affected I know have been young, fit, gum bunny marathon runners, the slightly overweight crisp fans have been fine.

I couldn’t raise the energy to be bothered.
I am 57, overweight smoker who has worked all through this in health care settings. I haven’t had it to the best of my knowledge. Daily LFTs for the past year pretty much.

I hate people posturing as if their very good luck in not being seriously affected by having had covid is due to their own personal virtue rather than just being lucky in a fairly random lottery.

And of course all the possible hidden negative health outcomes of having had covid, including heart damage, have been found to be equally present in people who have had mild cases, so they may well be gloating a bit too early.

Absolutely this. We were pretty careful as a family during peak-Covid as DH is CEV and was told by his consultant he really should try to avoid it. Then he got it a few weeks ago and very fortunately it manifested as nothing worse than a cold – we were very relieved he was so lucky.

Really happy for your DH. This is great news and it shows how you just don't know how it will affect you or someone you love. So it's nothing to gloat about.

I also know several people who think they're immune and somehow they feel superior for that reason. People equally wind me up when they profess loudly that the cold they have is ' not covid ' and they'd definitely know it's covid if it was. You don't know at all. Covid is so random and presents as mostly a cold in vaccinated people. So you literally cannot claim to be certain you don't have covid, unless you take a test.

Fine, if you don't want to take a test. But don't claim that you know it's not covid!
