Night sweats!!!

Pretty much since having my little girl 2 years ago they've been getting worse. My bed sheets are sodden and it's mainly from my legs. I sleep with no pyjamas on now but doesn't make a difference. I don't wake up with it, like I don't feel hot.

I told my GP and they took some bloods to check thyroid, diabetes and hormones and all came back clear but was low on folate and iron so am on meds for them which haven't helped. I'm convinced I'm starting menopause as my moods are terrible too but wouldn't they show on bloods? AIBU to ask them to re test?

How old are you ?

GeneLovesJezebel · 24/03/2022 21:50

How old was your mum when she started peri menopause ?

Clarabe1 · 24/03/2022 21:51

Are you on any medication? I suffered night sweats with anti depressants. I thought I was having an early menopause. Have you got a cough? Chest infections can cause night sweats? Most likely it’s your hormones but it’s worth ruling out other causes. I would see your GP.

Following with interest, very similar story. They have settled down a little lately but I don’t know why

GeneLovesJezebel · 24/03/2022 21:55

I sweat if I drink alcohol.

Bollocks989 · 24/03/2022 21:55

Might be an idea to see another Dr?

DuvetHugger · 24/03/2022 21:55

@clarabe1 citalopram! I have been on them before and not had this.

Would help if I put my age, 40!

Not sure about my mum as she died aged 38 and I was 9

I am 40 and been having this for years and ignored by doctors - eventually got taken seriously and confirmed early menapause - I even got put on citalapram for low mood, when in fact it was actually HRT I needed x

@DuvetHugger interesting I started getting sweats on seroxat the second time I took them and so I was convinced it had to be the menopause. I stopped taking them and the sweats went away and long story short I had to go back on them and the bloody sweats started up again. This is all happened to me in my late 30s. The GP confirmed ADs can cause night sweats. I just put up with it now but it’s shit isn’t it?

lemmein · 24/03/2022 22:41

Have you got a memory foam mattress? I bought one last year and have regularly woke up with sweaty legs since - never had an issue before. Bloody thing is too comfy (and expensive!) to replace though.

Clarabe1 · 24/03/2022 22:44

@lemmein I made the same mistake! I bought a topper for mine because like you say it’s too expensive to change. It has helped!

jeaux90 · 24/03/2022 23:15

Ok so definitely talk to your Dr about HRT. Within a week of patches my sweats stopped, my mood lifted and my joints stopped aching.

The other thing that helped is a 100% duvet (quite hard to find I think John Lewis still do them) and cotton cover and I changed my mattress as it was memory foam.
