Iv been with my partner 6 years, we have a child and I’m 3 months pregnant, we are happy. The school where our child attends, there is another set of parents with children, the man has always looked over towards me and smiled since I first started going there. His wife / partner doesn’t. This man has recently started working where my partner works which was only a coincidence. Since then this man has started trying to chat to me every chance he sees me, it’s either him or his wife who does the school run but never at the same time, his wife makes no attempt to talk to me. Recently this man has started to say hi darling, how’s you darling? I’m never with my partner on school runs as he’s working most of the time. When I have been with my partner he’s only smiled and said hi to us both together, but when I’m alone he makes a lot more effort to talk to me and call me darling. It might just be me but I never call anyone names like that I’d use their real name if needed.

I’m unsure what to think…..
Is he just being friendly as he works with my partner ?

I would think it’s just a well-meant greeting. Around here everyone is darling.

He also might have forgotten your actual name.

Mangogogogo · 24/03/2022 17:59

My guess is that he’s forgotten your name!

notacooldad · 24/03/2022 18:10

I call everyone Darling! Everyone calls me Love, Darlind, Sweetheart etc
Dh's work partner calls me Chickpea! " how ya doing chickpea" He dies know my name and I know he isnt hitting on me!!
I think you're probably safe!

Darling is usually one of thise general names, I call everyone Darling, as does most people I know.
He probably doesn't speak when you're with dh because he doesn't want to interrupt, it's normal to talk mostly to people on their own in the playground I think, so don't worry your completely overthinking it.

I’m from north east area. Darling/ love/ flower, are flirty names we use around here. He doesn’t know my name and I don’t know his.

I'm from the northeast too, I get called love, darling, flower all the time, and I don't think for a moment every man is flirting with me. It's very normal to speak to someone on their own in the yard, rather than with someone. Also, what do you expect him to call you if he doesn't know your name? Are you subconsciously hoping to be propositioned? Is he a looker?

WeeOrcadian · 24/03/2022 18:49

I'm in the North East too and there's nothing flirty about 'darling'

We live south East and my DH is from Sunderland. He calls me darling but no one else and I wouldn’t like it if he did! It’s a bit over friendly I think!

@Beautifulmonster87
Yes it’s very over friendly. If my partner was to call someone darling especially a young female when she was alone I’d see it as something else

I wouldn't be concerned about this at all. Even if he is flirting, so what? You're not reciprocating.
