To chase a job application?

OhYeahyeahyeah · 24/03/2022 11:00

Closing date was last Wednesday - my application was accepted when the Job was first advertised mid - February.
The Manager replied, Thanked me for my application and said they would be in touch after the closing date.

AIBU to drop the Manager a follow up email to my application? Or is that too much?

Really, really, really, really want the job! Smile

(It's a tiny Charity so doesn't have a huge recruitment / HR department or anything..)

I would. Why not?

So the job has been closed a week? I would give it another week, OP - I deal with recruitment a lot and it can often take time to get the shortlisting panel together.

More so if the job is quite senior and you therefore need to find a decent gap in very senior people's diaries to go through the applications. Also, the sheer number of people off with Covid at the mo might have delayed things.

I wouldn't chase so soon. These things can take way longer than you expect.

Definitely don't chase after only a week. There's a lot of work involved in shortlisting, arranging interview dates etc, and it often takes longer than this. Especially for a very small organisation, where the person arranging probably has a whole host of other commitments too.

I'd chase next week. I once rang asking for feedback as to why I hadn't been short listed, and talked myself into an interview 😁. Been doing the job 10 year now. Always worth the effort, if you really want it.

I agree with PP, definitely don't chase yet. Although you applied mid-Feb they probably won't start sifting and shortlisting until the closing date. The people sifting are probably doing this alongside their own full-time day job and then have to find a time they're all free to meet and agree who to take forward. Give it at least another week.
