To think delivery companies might tell you *what* is ‘on its way’

Hermes, Yodel et al.

‘You order is on its way and will be delivered today before 9.30pm’

What? What order? These days there is usually more than one thing on its way and no idea what Yodel has for me? A large plant, some bin bags, a very small packet of seeds? Some school shoes? What???

They often don’t even say what website you bought it on. Can’t be that difficult surely?

Unless there’s some kind of security risk?

Hermes etc usually email me with a "we have your parcel from (insert shop name) and it's out for delivery today"

Yodel is pretty crap all round so I expect very little from them in terms of useful information. DPD usually tell me where it's from but not always.

TwoDaysOff · 24/03/2022 10:10

It's probably a mass message once the parcels have been loaded into the van. Too much admin to personalise!
Mass pickups from certain store for Hermes may have their own van, hence being able to say from that shop.

Winniewonka · 24/03/2022 10:12

It will be a time saving issue. So much easier to send a generic message rather than someone having to type out every individual item for each customer.

LizDoingTheCanCan · 24/03/2022 10:12

"Great news, your xxl dildo is out for delivery!"

Best just to stick with the retailer name.

YES! Or I get a generic message saying my order has been picked up/delivered but I don't know if it's one I've SENT or am receiving!'
youdoyoutoday · 24/03/2022 10:16

How much crap are you ordering that you have no idea what is on the way? Confused

WhenDovesFly · 24/03/2022 10:16

I would think it's a security and or privacy issue. Would you want all and sundry to know that your hundreds of pounds games console is being delivered, or your rampant rabbit sex toy? I don't want the delivery driver to know what's in my parcels. I'm not sure how well they're vetted by the courier company.

SeasonFinale · 24/03/2022 10:18

it would be handy to know if it is the one you have to be in for large item or passport or one that actually can be posted through the letterbox with noone being home.

CounsellorTroi · 24/03/2022 10:18

I don’t order so much online that I wouldn’t have a clue what was on the way, especially if I knew the retailer.

Teeturtle · 24/03/2022 10:23

I had one of those messages this morning, it really wasn’t that hard to work it out.

TwoDaysOff · 24/03/2022 10:26

If you have many parcels, do you ot write the estimated date if delivery in your calendar? That would help.knowing which one it was?

youllneedthisfish · 24/03/2022 10:30

Not crap - as listed in the original post. Some more important than others

How much are you ordering?!
Normally the retailer send you an email when it's been dispatched, and I think the hermes do say we have your asos parcel or whatever. But honestly I don't think I've ever had so many orders in transit that I don't know what's coming!
